Apparently when the first film was submitted to the MPAA, they initially gave it an R-rating because the robots had humanoid faces, and therefore violence against them would be considered the same as violence against humans. Obviously the filmmakers protested this, arguing that they didn't resemble humans closely enough, and it was brought down to a PG-13. I wonder how much more they had to fight with them when they decided to start giving the robots red blood.
