I was a schoolboy in the early 70s in the north, this is unbelievably accurate.
An me in the Midlands just like this, climbin the cross bars, great days
yep as a mancunian city fan this so realistic, and a united fan school teacher makes it even more poignant
That dive 😂 would get him in Olympics with Tom Daley 😂
I owe my gratitude to my English teacher at the wensleydale school for letting us watch this in lesson aged 13
🙌🙌
This whole film is testament to Ken Loach's directing skills. The fact that the late great Colin Welland & Brain Glover were previously teachers (as was Barry Hines who wrote the novel and co-wrote the screenplay) lent some authenticity to their roles.
Life in a northern town .
Love the reaction from the kid at 3:55 "fat twat, needs bleeding milking". Has me in hysterics everytime.
The wonderful Brian Glover. Teacher actor and professional wrester .
Great times and so bloody true to life. What a sports teacher owes was very similar. 😂
I was so like Casper at sports in school. Hated it, but can laugh now, especially seeing this again
Slack work lad. Slack work.
Thanks Christian.
Cickey I remember the film. Funny and true.
There were characters like that in those days (especially in Yorkshire).
that coach cracks me up 😂😂😂😂
Best film ever made
"You trying to tell me about football"? Fantastic, still have the booook and VHS!
My schooldays - early '60s. We had a junior Games Master whom Brian Glover could certainly have drawn his inspiration from.
Junior school cricket (which I was hopeless at). Standing in the deep field, trying to stop a boundary, I stuck my foot out to intercept the ball - but on the rough grass it bounced and missed my foot. Games Master was watching the match, came over, and said, "You use your HANDS to stop the ball. If I ever see you try with your foot again, I'll march you off to the first-aid room and cane you."
That warning sank home all right - and it was no idle threat. On another occasion, rugby this time (luckily I wasn't involved), he did indeed cane an entire school XV after learning that they'd misbehaved in the changing room after an away match at another school. Four strokes each, with the rod. In public.
Talk about brutality!
But Glover's performance is something else, I guess. Selfishness and egotism in school sport - I'm not sure about that happening in my days.
The amazing thing is, my PE teacher was just like this character, totally corrupt. 🤣🙏
Fantastic just like it was
That chubby kid in the glasses and the shorts way too small for him. There was a kid like this on every school playing field in my day (1970s). This so takes me back to my school days in secondary modern (1972-77). Boy, how accurate this is.
I was born 1995 and if you didn't bring your pe kit it was whatever you could find in the lost and found lol always way to big as I'm small 😂
Absolutely brilliant
BriAn Glover ,has nailed this Game,sTeacher so true to life ,its as if im there with them ,when he misses the Penalty and said he moved ,actually happend to me ,so our games teacher ,took another and kicked the ball over ,I Laughed at him ,and he sent me off ,But he was very approachable off the pitch and Hated Bullys ,Happy Happy daays

The honest Brutality of Comprehensive Education for council estate kids, It was character forming and done me no harm. Kids these days are spoilt and soft.
