    "The Cult" -Super awesome Guys! I Love this Band. They are NOT Hair Metal. I have never known nor heard them referred to as Hair-Metal??? To me & my fellow peers down here in New Zealand we first saw the band as Rock with a punkish edge, as well as 'British-Gothic' Rock. I'm glad they were nowhere near commercial in the beginning But I noticed that became the norm in the late 80's early 90's onwards. Cant deny it though, Ian's Voice is one of the best & that mane of Hair he had was Gorgeous. I fell in love with the Band straight away & Ian Astbury was 'the strawberry on the top' in multiple ways, eg. Ian's Strong distinctive voice, that thick mane of flowing black locks, the porcelain-like skin, a man in make-up, aaaahhhhh, need I go on? P.S. Song requests: 'Edie(Ciao, baby)', 'Painted on my Heart', 'She sells Sanctuary', etc. All are Masterpieces in their own right!

      Yeah there's definitely a problem with trying to define bands, it never does them justice!

    It is a must hearing the original version of Sweet Soul Sister in its true glory, as this is the strangely edited one....There is a big difference.

    I love The Cult they should have been a lot bigger than what they were. They started out as a goth rock before moving more towards hard rock

    Although "Sonic Temple" was The Cults American crossover album with "Fire Woman" getting the major airplay, I felt that their previous two albums, "Love" and "Electric" were far superior. I believe that if they would have crossed over with the "Electric" album, they would have had more success in the U.S.

    • @DamnDealDone
      @DamnDealDone Před 6 měsíci

      No. Sonic Temple is superior in every single way. Even Ceremony is better than Electric.

    For those who might care, this is not Matt Sorum actually playing drums on this song (or the entire Sonic Temple album). Mickey Curry actually played all of the drums on the Sonic Temple album in the studio. People may know Curry from Hall & Oates or Bryan Adams. Curry has played in the studio on a number of albums by more heavy rock oriented groups including The Cult and Alice Cooper (believe it or not). This is indeed Matt Sorum in the video, but what you're actually hearing on the drums is Mickey Curry. Just factual info for those who might care.

    Ian Astbury reminds me much more of Steven Tyler more than anyone else, in terms of vocal style and his choice of stage attire. I had the privilege of meeting him back in the late 80s after they opened for ACDC. He was at a hotel across the street from the venue, just sitting on a bench in front of the hotel. He was the most humble, down to earth musicians I've ever met. Absolutely zero ego, and he really cared what his fans thought. Just that encounter and seeing The Cult live cemented them as 1 of my favorite bands.

    I don't listen to The Cult often,,,but when I do so does My neighborhood,,, Oliver stone wanted Ian but they wanted to get an Actor more than a singer to play the part...Billy Duffy was I think ,asked to play with the Smiths...Damn fine guitarist ...Can you look at Johnny Marr,"GETTING AWAY WITH IT"... Live version ...

    One of the best rock bands ever! So underrated. The Cult from Love to Electric to Sonic Temple were on top of their game. All 3 albums were completely different. They weren't radio friendly but listen to their catalog and you won't be disappointed.

    Ian Astbury went on to replace Jim Morrison for The Doors tours, in between making cult albums.
    Rick Rubin produced at least one of their early albums before he became the world famous producer he is.
