- Le réalisateur de «Dune» (2021, 2024), Denis Villeneuve, a parcouru beaucoup de chemin depuis ses débuts. En 1990-91, encore tout jeune, il participe à l'émission de télévision de Radio-Canada, La course Europe-Asie. Cette émission a été diffusée dès 1976 sous différents noms dont La course autour du monde et La course destination monde. Dans cette émission se trouvaient en compétition des participants qui parcouraient seuls des régions du monde. Le 24 septembre 1990, l’animateur de l’émission La course Europe-Asie, Michel Désautels, reçoit les huit candidats de cette course entre deux continents. Comme ses collègues, Denis Villeneuve présente son autoportrait aux téléspectateurs.

This is so inspiring. I mean really. I wanted to become a filmmaker, did a filmmaking race similar to this one, but life decided otherwise for my career path. I'm not in filmmaking anymore, but I missed it deeply. I always think about Denis Villeneuve and his amazing path. I'm still working hard to make it happen and each time I see Denis Villeneuve's name on screen, I have a glimpse of hope that it can still be possible. Merci, Denis🎞

30 ans plus tard, les budgets de ses films sont rendu à 175 million (US $) pour Dune 🤑. J'avais suivi cette saison de La Course (comme toutes les autres) et à chaque début, je choisissais "mon" candidat ou candidate. Cette année là, mon coeur balançait entre Denis Villeneuve et Patrick Masbourian. Les deux on bien réussi leur vie je crois 😉

He's travelling in his or someone else's memory. That shot on the grass was like the landing on memory land or something.
Denis was a contestant on a TV show, this is the first show where he'a about to be sent around the world. The firsr video is a short self-portrait / bio. The story of a "brainstronaut" who is sent in the thoughts of young Denis Villeneuve to discover the "camerasaurus". He lands in the "jungle" of Gentilly (Denis Villeneuve's home village - wich definely isn't a jungle but really has a lot of duck hunters). The video ends with Denis' mom calling him for dinner. Then there's a short interview where Denis makes some jokes and present two comic books he'll bring along his travels. The second video was made by Nicolas Kadima, Denis' friend, and he gives us useful informations about Denis' circumcision like a true friend would to embarrass you on national TV.
