Does uct offer a bridging course for accounting?

hey! since i personally could not answer this question. i asked my friends who are in the faculty of commerce. i paraphrased their answers. 🤍
Opinion 1 (from a 2nd year Commerce student):
“Minimum requirements is maths core to have a certain percentage…and there has not been anything about bridging a maths course to go into accounting based on the prospectus handbook.”
Opinion 2 (2nd year Commerce student):
“When I was applying (year 2021) in order to get into the commerce degree it required you to have pure maths…and the issue will come down to the NBT where you have to do the maths section as well and you cannot do that maths section without having done pure maths because it’s not the same. Well you can but it will just be really difficult. With regards to a bridging course- I think you can although there are not many but one of two people who didn’t do pure maths in high school but they still got into commerce but I think you must apply to AD (academic development) or EDU- one of the two.”
Opinion 3 (UCT student):
“I know I’m not a future accountant but at UCT you have to do NSC maths (60%) and English (50%) for accounting… this is according to the prospectus… I’d suggest that if they really want to do accounting, they should go to an institution where they can study maths for a year and write a final exam with the class of 2023.”
Opinion 4 (3rd year Commerce student):
“You don’t need to do a bridging course at UCT- if you have enough APS points, you can get in with Maths Lit or even without any prior Acc high school knowledge. All Bcom students do the same courses in their first year.“
my little advice is to not be afraid to email the faculty advisors because i am sure they would love to help. i hope this has provided you with a little bit of clarity regarding your question. 💌
