Super High Temperatures at Grotto Hydrothermal Vent | Nautilus Live

  • It’s a good thing our geologists like it hot because while measuring temperatures at the Grotto hydrothermal vent of the Main Endeavour Field during dive H2031, our probe recorded an incredibly high measurement of 332℃ or 629.6℉! During this #ONCabyss Summer 2024 expedition, OET and Ocean Networks Canada are performing maintenance and collecting data on this special deep sea environment, one of the most hostile on the planet. We install these BARS, or benthic and resistivity sensors, to record measurements like resistivity, temperature, hydrogen, and eH at these sites over time. Our scientists speculate these higher-than-expected temperatures may be a result of recent increased seismic activity in the region, recorded by ONC instruments in real-time beginning in March 2024.

I can't wrap my head around 339 degrees C, especially on the deep ocean floor! Nature continues to astound, lol.

God is not "mother nature. God is in control. God created the Heavens and the earth and everyone and everything in it. We did not come from mold or bacteria. 🙄🙄

Robert Ballard's pioneering hydro-thermal vent exploration sure helped re-write marine biology texts! His work continues! Well done.

Too bad the ROV temperature probe was nonfunctional, would have liked to have had data from two separate instruments.

darn it, even the vents are getting warmer! makes sense though, even though its a bit unnerving

Am I right in thinking that the reason the water isn't turning into steam is becasue of the pressure?

I'd like you to de-bunk my theory. The melting of all the glaciers around the world and the rising seas. Because the glaciers were always in the same places and now the melted glaciers are raising the seas, the weight of this non-solid water is putting extra pressure on the crust. I'm not a scientist so phrases aren't perfect. Basically what I'm trying to say is this; is the Earth's crust being affected by the extra weight of the melted glaciers?.
Phew! That was quite an exercise for my pea-sized brain. lol

Global warming is a LIE. Get it through your head. It's the political scam to gain control of all the people and tax them to death and keep them in fear. The earth has always run in cycles. We are still having blizzards and so much snow in different cities and countries even this year and cold days and nights in south florida. wake up.

It's a well known process, "Post Glacial Rebound" although it happens on Geological timescales so it's still rebounding around northern Europe from the last Ice Age ~11,000 years ago.
