Curator, definitely. Becoming an empty nester was a game-changer for us. We jettisoned 25 years worth of stuff and moved to our 1-story forever home. Our motto is: Take it out of the box or it's history. That has led us to be very purposeful about every item we have. Curating means no clutter and truly timeless design.
We are in the same place in life - empty-nesters (although we have grandkids that spend weekends with us) about to move to our one-story forever home. I'm just beginning to declutter and decide what to take to our new home. Thanks for sharing your motto.

I am definitely a new traditionalist without a doubt, but I can truly appreciate all of the different design styles that people have in their homes to reflect their unique and interesting style.

This video is amazing! I nearly spilled my coffee at each turn to a new style. Except for the Purist (which to me can only be truly executed by those wealthy, unmarried or childless 😂} I see myself in each. I guess that explains a lot about my interior chaos!

I Love summer so my apartment theme is always light, airy and beach colors through out the year. Due to winter blues, I prefer summer colors. Good for my soul.🌞

I've always considered myself to be eclectic with an appreciation of most styles. After watching these descriptions, I'd say I'm a cross between Curator, New Traditional and Free Spirit. I can't really decide on just one. Thanks for a very informative and fun video!

I am a Curator on a budget. So, I search for dupes at West Elm, HomeGoods, Amazon, Ikea, etc. Your video was a lot of fun to watch, and with the tips and details you shared, I now know what design personality I am, but also several family and friends who love decorating and creating a beautiful home as much as I do. I plan to share this video with them. They will now have a style guide to hone in on decor, artwork, paint colors, rugs and furniture that speaks to them when making any changes to their nest. I cannot live without plants, and feel so empty when shown pictures of gorgeous spaces devoid of greenery. I like a lot of styles but could not live without colors, which mostly, in my space, are added with rugs. Plants, lamps and rugs are my things. Hygge. Free spirit from Denmark 🇩🇰

I believe, according to your description, that I am mostly leaning on the side of Collector- but also some elements of Free Spirit as well. I love dark moody colours for the home (especially the walls) and I have a wonderful collection of antiques but not in the cluttered sense, just right balance with intentional pieces. Probably the most important element is having a home that is a beautiful envelope in terms of age and originality (full of windows and light...more unusual for historical buildings). It is interesting to learn the different categories of design styles, although it is hard to place oneself entirely in one category.
I totally agree, I also have a mix of several design personalities! I love historical, original details as well, there's just something so romantic and enchanting about them. Older homes with these types of details always make my heart skip a beat!

OMG! I’m a New Traditionalist to my core. I love everything in that category and every one of those things are in my home BUT my bar cart is real bamboo. My mother’s tea set is proudly displayed atop! I can’t believe how exacting this is. Love❤
Hi Ashley, I really enjoyed your comments and descriptions of all five decorator types. I had to listen twice because I had three picked out and then removed one and now I’m down to two; Collector decorator, and free spirit. I’m a cross between them both, however, I tend to really love the free spirit because it feels more like me. Thank you for your wonderful descriptions of each decorator type.
As a Boomer, I can't imagine many of us in the same age range don't have a dash of '60's free spirit with the colors and materials of those amazing days

I’m a Collector with a touch of Free Spirit thrown in.
For my last home of 20 years, I painted my own Welcome sign which read, " Welcome to the Retro Bohemian Country Gothic Cottage", which now hangs at my new (very old) Home. So, I guess I'm a "Free Spirit Collector" style person!

I have always been a Traditionalist. Now, it's called Modern Traditionalist! Excellent - very lovely, indeed! My foyer has art - personally created by my daughter and me! I do not feel so "Mommysome" anymore after seeing what Kate Spade did to her foyer in her NY apartment. I have heirlooms from several generations of Asian and Spanish (Andalucian) heritage tastefully placed in vignettes all over my house.
