As a Kiwi, all I can say is that was embarrassing. Biggest city in the country (what over a million?), and Auckland put on a worse fireworks display than my own local town of less than 3000. Pretty sad.

Went to Sydney NYE instead. There's is like 1000x more better. And the NSW Government didn't charge for the premium vantage points either. And double decker trains that run to the airport too, driverless trains, light rail, drastically cheaper Opal fares and groceries. Auckland doesn't run trains during the summer holidays particularly Dec 25-Jan 5... they run bus replacements... lol. I wish they put more effort into these. No wonder why I saw so many New Zealand citizens at the airport wanting to leave for Australia where we were looked after very well by our Australian neighbours. Our Air New Zealand 787-9 plane was full flying from Auckland to Sydney. And yet NZ overexaggerate over the average wage in NZ (its more like around $60k/year per adult, median calculation is more accurate than mean). Sad reflections for NZ. Nevertheless, wishing everyone a prosperous year ahead.

Boring... Why don't they do it off the harbour bridge like Sydney? Even Wellington, the 2nd largest city in NZ, has better fireworks than Auckland. If Sydney can close the bridge for a few hours, Auckland with a fraction of the population surely could too.
