I love that when they hit the throttle just for that fraction of a second, the entire car that four guys are holding down AND the camera just shakes. These things are beast.

The camera shakes, because of the vibrating wall of sound that hits the person holding the camera, that measures 3.4 on the Rickter Scale. Go and see these Top Fuel Dragster and experience them 👍👍👍👍
liquid nitromethane is pretty hard to ignite. not a good habit to get into, but not super dangerous. the methanol may ignite, but there's so little of it at 9:1, still not dangerous imo.
@@Jay-jb2vr It's actually going from the gas being squirted in the injector hat to nitro. We start them on gas then slowly turn the fuel pump on. The fuel pump is nitro, no alcohol.
@@joshjarrell4990 I'm on a crew of a top fuel dragster. We start them on gas. We only use methanol if we need to run the car longer like phasing the mags.
@@joshjarrell4990 you can see some of my videos and you'll see what I'm talking about. Most videos we're going straight from gas to nitro. But there's 1 or 2 where we're going from gas to methanol (bc we need more time to phase the mags and don't want use more nitro then necessary since we're burning a gallon every 15 seconds at idle. And nitro is about $30 a gallon) then we pull the pump on to begin the nitro. Once it's on nitro you'll see us pull out the methanol fuel lines. I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm simply wanting to educate you. But I sure you, when you see us fire them on the starting line before a run, that squirt bottle is just 87 octane gasoline. I run the starter and I once got a mouthful of gas when the crew chief was squeezing the bottle a tad to hard. I had to just bear it bc I can't let go of the starter switch until I know it's lit on nitro. Because if it dies we have to back the motor down and then try again. All the while the other car would already be doing their burnout which means now we're behind which is no good.
@@Jay-jb2vr No no. He's backing down the motor (spinning it in reverse by hand) to clear any nitro still in the cylinders to keep the engine from firing to soon when the starter button is pulled.
The car will actually jump off the jack stands just from the blip of the throttle, they usually use the two chunkiest crew members for that task to get as much weight on the back of the car but even still the car jumps.

No, the cameraman shook the camera himself
I will never get bored of watching these beasts, whether in the flesh, on CZcams, or on the gogglebox. Love em.
I've just seen them in person a few weeks ago for the first time and man I tell ya, I cannot wait to do it again..
truly extraordinary huh?
I love taking 'nitro virgins' to our local strip. It's just so funny.
agreed!
2:34 Was waiting for that! Lmfao crowd reactions are always the best during those little throttle blips...
Hells yeah. It’s something to see these things come to life live in person when they rotate earth.
imagine one of these pulling up next to you at a red light. hehehe
in a movie wasn't a top fuel , but a funny car... movie was called fast company

What an amazing sound. I surprised that the crew never had ear protection and I wonder if they are deaf now?
