In this video, we head up north to Marquette Michigan for a couple days for a winter adventure in the snow! I used to ride my bike in the winter when I was a paperboy in Harvey, outside of Marquette, 50 years ago! If you fall, you don't hurt yourself, you just slide for 20 feet! :-D

The longest decade in my life was the winter day I spent in Marquette in 1983.
I was born and raised in the Detroit area, my younger sister went to NMU in Marquette, that is how I found out about this place was visiting her. I decided to move here for a little while, that was 10 years ago (Spetember 2010). I now own a business and a home in Marquette. Love it up here. My advice is quit wasting your life in Detroit and move up here.

I served at the old SAC base near Marquette (K.I. Sawyer) until 1974. We LOVED Marquette. There was an Italian restaurant on the "main drag" that we ALSO LOVED. I visited Marquette last summer. And guess what?. That Italian restaurant is STILL there and STILL run by the same family....and STILL has the great Italian food we remembered.

I was born and raised in Mt. Clemens, 27 miles NE of Detroit and people always talked about the UP winters as the most dreadful thing in the world. I LOVE your comment, "It's a winter wonderland, people actually celebrate winter here, not dread it." I like the positive message! Personally, I look forward to winter. :-)

I’ve spent many winters in the lower peninsula. I can only imagine how much more intense the winter is in the U.P..

Hi Felicia, we have found Marquette to be a great place to get away and like you said, tons to do and see. If you haven’t hiked hogback you’ll want to do than and then across the road is hiking along Lake Superior. Big Bay is a nice ride and while up that way you can hike out to yellow dog falls. Also an hour away is Canyon Falls, a little south of L’anse, great place to get some great pictures.
In Marquette right now resting from the drive from outside Detroit and watching these vids for ideas where to go loves this town and all of up don’t wanna leave

You did mention marquette mountain it's a very nice place to ski and the sights are great this place is a very nice place to vacation in the winter and summer black rock is awesome right along with pictured rock one place I haven't seen in any videos yet

The WHOLE upper peninsula is so gray and depressing all winter. I have been here for 4 winters now. Its legitimately the worst place in the continental US in winter. Summer pretty much blows too, as soon as the weather is bearable the insects drive you right back inside. I've used 100percent deet bug spray, does nothing. I fog my property, does nothing. I'm just about done remodeling my house and then it's for sale, and I'm outta here. I absolutely hate this place, I have nothing good to say about it.
Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that’s how you feel. I have to say I absolutely love winter here but I know it’s not for everybody. I hope you find what your looking for in your next home!
Your opinion. All good. But you clearly don’t sound like an outdoor person. Not sure why you moved to the UP expecting no bugs. Straight sunshine, and cold weather. Yes buys exist almost everywhere. People create their own experiences. Good luck

I feel like Marquette is amazing to visit but actually living there isn’t as great as you think.
Depends on the person I think! I know a ton of people that live up there and absolutely love it! Some, not so much! I know that right now I’d love to live up there even in the winter!

I never quite understood why people in Marquette wear socks with their sandals.
