Very beautiful! Might I ask why you have to swirl your brush over the page in circles before you actually start writing?

Hi Peter, thank you for your kind words and your questions - you actually captured a very important movement ;)
As East Asian Calligraphy is not only an art form, but, most importantly, a practice of breathing, bringing mind, heart and spirit to the same point so that the brush can flow. The starting circular movement is a process to co-ordinate the above before we making the first touch-down. As the ancient masters said, "Only put down your brush when your mind is clear and heart is ready".
