I think Yashin is far too underrated compared to modern keepers because people always underrate his sweeping and his ball playing abilities. Yashin was one of the very first keepers ever to truly command his entire box and whilst he didn’t have the kicking accuracy of someone like Neuer, he had an excellent throw instead and would always look to start counter attacks with a fast throw out to the defence. His achievements are more impressive when you think that unlike modern goalkeepers who are trained at a young age to do “modern” things, Yashin did all of that on pure instinct and talent without being trained to, and in an era when defences are not rigidly organised like they are now. He was also short for a goalkeeper, yet still managed such an impressive shot stopping record.

He is not underrated as a keeper but as a legend he is underrated
