  • When it comes to curating good social media content, variety is key. But does this mean you should post completely different things to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and CZcams? Not necessarily (as it would be A LOT of work!). Rather, social media pro and Backstage Expert Heidi Dean suggests that actors should consider varying things like post time, hashtags, and post concept, tweaked to fit the platform.

Thank you so much for offering to answer questions! If I can ask you, is it really necessary to worry about your Instagram account as far as your career is concerned?(That's what I use most on sns) Like would it be detrimental to my career if I didn't focus on it as much as trying to break into the industry the old fashion way? Or are there specific benefits to trying to branch out on social media?

@@Lafemme17 Great question Laura! And a big question so I'll try to answer it as succinctly as possible. You can def try the old fashioned way but the industry is changing and depending on what kind of work you are pursuing as an actor (film/tv/theatre) you may at some point need to use social media (posting requirements in your contracts, live tweeting or Instagram takeovers). PLUS it's a great way to meet new people in the business and stay top of mind and connected to your existing contacts in the biz. AND if you're using social media know that it is part of your first impression as an actor (even if you're using it for fun). So make sure it's showing your best self that people would want to work with for hours in the rehearsal room or on set. Hope that helps. My website (which is at the link in the description above) has tons of free resources to help you with your Instagram if you decide to use it to further your career. Best of luck!

What do casting directors look for in a persons social media account?

@@elel7725 Hi Lele! That depends on the person. Nowadays social media part of your first impression. It's actually the 1st thing to come up in Google Searches for your name. So having a positive first impression on social media can help you get called in (and in many cases can negatively impact you getting seen/cast if it's not professional). Overall, they want to see you! Your social media should be a professional representation of the person you're going to be in the rehearsal room or on set- this includes posts about your #actorslife but also posts that show us a little bit about who you are and what you do. If you click on my profile photo on this comment you'll find a ton of videos on my channel that will help you clean up and spruce up your social media so it looks AWESOME for any industry pro. Best of luck!

Hi Heidi what can I post that's in-brabd on social media. My brand is the shy, loveable idiot.
