    I've been playing DCS for about 6 months. I got into it from OperatorDrewski and Enigma. I wanted to play the cold war server. I bought the F-5 for my first play with a Saitek HOTAS. I have learned a ton and I highly recommend to new players getting a plane they love for their first. However if they still don't know I recommend FC3. You get the most bang for your buck. I find that the older planes usually have a little bit less to learn for new player and Enigma's Cold War server always has a ton of action for a new player looking to get their hands dirty I'm currently teaching one of my friends how to fly the F-5 and he's having a ton of frustrating fun. Thanks for the information. Happy flying!

    I have seen that the A4E Skyhawk is also available and as a free module. That seems to me like another great place to start given it's versatility of mission types and simpl-ER controls, given it's age (analog and just a lot less to manage in the cockpit). I don't know if all that translates into easier to fly but it seems like it might be a solid contender against the Hornet given it's free and probably easier to learn for us beginners.

    you should mention also opentrack and AItrack because they are fantastic free program that can be used with a normal webcam and they are very nice in performing, of course track IR is better but it costs 100 or more bucks. Another suggestion is to get yourself pedals if you want to fly helicopter. I find myself stuck with Apache but I found a nice trick: I use Axis wheel(not car wheel) to simulate the rudder in the way that the pedals remain in that position, I don't suggest to use the rudder build in the stick that you can use to turn it like for example the X52 and others have. You forget also that buying directly from Eagle Dynamics gives you the possibility to use the mile reward system that gives you point to use every time you buy a new module

  • @ReflectedSimulations
    @ReflectedSimulations Před rokem +30

    I would disagree anout getting the Hornet or FC 3, and I’d rather echo your later advice. Everyone keeps asking which module they should buy. Whatever you buy is a huge investment in time and effort. You’ll only be motivated enough to follow through the learning curve if it’s a plane you’re passionate about. Whatever it may be. Yes the Hornet is a jack of all trades but if you’re not a huge fan, you won’t invest the required time and effort.

    • @g-locmedia
      @g-locmedia  Před rokem +8

      Yea I agree with that but I still feel that Flaming Cliffs 3 is what I would recommend If you didn’t have a particular plane that you’d love to learn.

      Started with FC3, Su-27 and Mig-29 in particular, bought the F/A-18 because... well, people said its a truly good multi-role. as a beginner with around ~10 hours in FC3 modules combined. I haven't looked back since. I'd say that the F/A-18 is one of the most beginner friendly FF modules out there, it has some complexity, but I don't think its complexity is "learning to fly" the aircraft, its complexity is "complexity of systems interaction and management", including concepts like SOI and SPI, along with Pre-programmable weapons all turning the module into a complex yet highly rewarding system.
      The tutorials for the F/A-18 are one of the best, and I think there is a huge content material for it to learn from.
      The F-16 still feels underdeveloped (and the tutorials are not the best), and I haven't given the F-15E too much time yet.
      I'd say, that due to the fact that each and every aircraft is so unique, there is no reason to start with FC3, and I'd say "go for what is interesting for you", but don't "handicap" yourself by saying "oh I'M not interested" or "oh it's full fidelity / complex"; that's why I held myself back from honestly one of the best experiences I could have (the Hornet). I wasn't really interested in the Hornet to be honest, I simply bought it cause it can... do everything, including Naval stuff. When deciding between the F-15E, the F-16C, and the Hornet, I was looking at the "best bang for buck" (i.e. module capabilities), and the Hornet seemed the best choice. And I have never regretted it. Coupled with a VR headset, this is "peak entertainment" for me, I still remember that one mission in Rise of the Persian Lion Campaign, where you save that ship from 2 helos, then 2 F4s intercept you... I was shaking. Most notably it was this campaign that really made me fall in love with it.
      So as a beginner, I'd say: Go for the Hornet. Great tutorials, plenty of things to learn, lots of capabilities, I think nothing really comes as close, lots of campaigns, and an overall very easy plane to fly due to Fly-by-wire. The cockpit layout is fantastic. And due to the capabilities, you can really try almost everything you can do in DCS. I especially like it in the ground attack mode simply because I can soften up enemy positions with SEAD/DEAD then go back and drop bombs and mavericks. I know F-16C can do the same, but can they land on or take off from a ship? Can they launch harpoons? Not sure. I've also found the Hornet cockpit to be the most ergonomic / streamlined between the 3 modern US fighters we have in the game.
      Was I passionate about the Hornet? No. Am I passionate about the Hornet now? YES.
      TLDR: Do yourself a favour, and listen to the last comment of the maker of the video: register at digitalcombatsimulator.com, and not on Steam, so you can try the modules for free. Don't be like me, who bought 3 full-fidelity modules, to try them, although I will eventually get back to the Eagle and the Viper. Once I had my fun in the Hornet.

    When I first started DCS, I started with the F-16 as a first module and was told that I would be too overwhelmed with a full fidelity aircraft as my first. They were all wrong, the F-16 was the best first aircraft in DCS (In my opinion), I had learned it fully in about 4 - 6 months and it was a breeze, a very fun aircraft and it is still my most used aircraft.

    My advice to friends who aren't sim enthusiasts but looking to get into DCS is always, HOTAS, head tracker and the A10A (or FC3). It's such a simple aircraft to learn (although it didn't feel so simple as a noob) that sets the beginner up well for all other US planes, it's easy to fly, carries a heavy payload so can give the satisfaction of lots of kills per sortie, and it's slow which allows time to think which is critical when learning!
    The F15C would be my next suggestion to learn the AA combat manuvres.
    Then consider the hifi planes.
    I know some have jumped straight to hi fi planes from day one but you guys aren't human 😂

  • @blenderalien
    @blenderalien Před rokem +2

    I think autostart is poissin in full fidelity aircraft, at least if you want to really learn it rather than just shoot things quickly. If you know what you're doing, it's a lot faster than autostart (at least in the modules I've flown (F16, F18, F14)) mostly due to the alignment process. I argue, learning to turn on everything by yourself gives you the opportunity to learn the cockpit layout and functionality intimately right from the start and also how the systems are designed to work and so on. Now, of course this is primarily true for the rather modern modules. For example, I'd say the ka-50's startup isn't something that elevates your understanding of your aircraft by a lot (compared to the F14 or F16)

    If youre planning on multiplayer.
    A2A = F16, is easy win once you learn.
    Multirole = F/A18, so much options. And carriers ops, much fun.
    Hardcore Multirole = F15E S4+, new release still wip, currently tough to compete with but potential is huge.
    A2G = A10C2, Brtttt. Plus when you get good you can upset a lot of fighter jocks.
    Nostalgia = F14 and Mirage, really tough to compete with F16s but once youre a beast it is really rewarding.
    Everything = FC3, great package, covers all elements easier to pick up and play due limted simulation of every system, but the combat is just as challenging so learning curve just as steep. No clicky switches in cockpit, everthing needs assigning to hotas and keyboard.
    Troll jets = Mig21, F5, Viggen, great in depth learning platforms, get gud in these and upset fighter jocks. Really tough to be that guy though but when it clicks you realise the secret.
    Attack Helos = Apache or Ka50, both amazing.
    Troll helo = Gazelle or Mi24, A2A missiles.
    Cargo helos = Mi8 or Huey, great mp servers around to help assist your teams logistics and base capture.
    Super Nostalgia = Mig15 and F86, less servers but amazing fun.
    WW2 = take your flavour, all amazing.
    Freebie = Su25T, yes its free with DCS, is FC3 standard. Can do anything A2G and is a master fighter jock upsetter. Kill them with R73 or vikhrs, then annihalte their base. Free fun.
    A4E is also free but not official.

    I believe the first thing you need to understand before actually deciding to take the plunge, is to understand that with DCS you can go as close to MilSim as possible; without actually doing it in real life. Where as the low fidelity aircraft like the F-15 or Mig - 29 is more difficult to fly in DCS (as compared to other arcade games out there), it is nowhere as tough as learning to fly a full-fidelity aircraft like the F-14 or F-16. Even primary training planes like the YAK-52 requires you to understand the basics aeronautic principals and be willing to spend of lot of time learning the basics before going into anything tough like dogfighting.

( as you say Auto start must be a good thing ,but I do like to do things by the book ,from scratch.Then theres the hoops it wants you to fly through before carrying on with the training - not funny. The docs are far too long and some help-vids are low-res rubbish or equally annoying voices, loud music or horrible accents, Chucks guides dont even do the SU25T freebie either can you imagine that the aircraft that comes with the freebie game. I disagree with playing the missions for weeks or months. Hop in to a PVE server like 4YE or Through the Inferno with other players who are also there to practice and just have fun, which means they'll be more than happy to talk with you in chat and help shorten the learning curve with better explantions than what ED or a 20 minute "Fast" video will do. DCS is alot easier when you have a human being teaching you. (which is a series you should think about, those "1-minute" tutorials always helped as most players are using their phones while flying to learn.)

The track clip that is used for putting on your headset to follow your movements are very fragile. A great alternative is Delan clip from delanengineering.com it is only £70 for full kit and there are other free and very accurate facetracking options.

    granted, i came from 10k+ hours in Warthunder, but once i had my all the necessary buttons mapped, i did one mission editor to practice locking/firing ect, and then i was off to GS server, getting kills as a mountain flanker. you dont need weeks or months of practice to understand all the basics and start putting them to use in pvp, so you can evolve an improve your gameplay through experience agaisnt actual players/people better than you. plus its much more satisfying/gratifying to know you shot down another player. even when i learned the f16, ive never seen a single chucks guide, i watched a few short vids on whatever it was i had a question about.

      Agree with the fact that playing against actual real players pushes your further quicker. Yea it’s all about nailing the basics down then growing.

    hi i saw your post from the facebook page of dcs group. i really don`t like someone is saying that you cant really play DCS with Controller and keyboard + mouse. that is a high lie. i have many friends all over the country which plays DCS for years with those setup. we are from a 3rd world country and the price of hotas is no joke. if you learn enough and i say its around 2 weeks. you can master flying with the controller. hell. even i started from Xbox controller for 2 months before i decided investing for HOTAS because i also playing FS2020.
    as for the full fidelity module. f18 is the most highly recommended because its the easiest module because on how high tech it is. it is really not hard to learn the f18. it is hard to master thou.
    next is the tips for trainings. dont go combat missions for training. go to the actual "training" that ED have from their module. that is the newbie tip learn the controls before going to any combat mission. your title said starting with DCS world not tips before entering MP servers.
    i do apologize if i sound so salty but there are many tips for new DCS world players here in youtube but yours does not just said the obvious, but you didnt have a like updated things to say.
    like which channel to follow for certain things, when and what is the best beginner friendly bind profiles you can see.
    please see this as constructive criticism. i just want to see a 2022 version of tips for beginners when starting with DCS i hope i will see more of your videos and a thumbs up and subscribe to you .

      I know some people that still play games with a keyboard and mouse, hell, I started with those on MSFS 98. However, I soon got myself a 12 dollar 2 axis joystick without any spare axises for throttles, f2 and f3 keys were good enough. By the time I got to play MSFS 2000, I'd already decided to save up and get a Basic Microsoft Sidewinder joystick and the rest is history. The amount of time and investment you make in your hobby is sometimes directly proportional to your interest.

      @@g-locmedia it's just a lot easier to pick up and play DCS whenever i want. All i really need is a gaming laptop and a simple Xbox or Playstation controller.
      Plus, when it's set up correctly, you'll never have to use any other device while playing. Mouse, head tracker, rudder pedals, keyboard? None of that is necessary once you're in the cockpit.

    Dislike right from the start for the first tip about not using a keyboard+mouse or a controller. For "getting most of" yes, sure I do agree, but that's not the point of the video, not a tip for the beginners! There was guy in a Growling Sidewinder's (or other popular dude) video doing a nearly perfect formation flying and a nice easy take off and landing.. on a laptop. ON A LAPTOP, using TRACKPAD! And other example, here I am having already ~30h, learning FA-18 using a PS4 pad and having a great time! Oh yeah, and that's during the trial period, wich is mentioned in very last seconds of the video! for a beginners! damn I got nerves watching this.
    First tip is an absolute bullsh*t and mentioning the trials on the very end is as well. Hey Getting Started Beginners! wanting to learn the aircraft and have the pleasure of knowing ins and outs of its systems and fly a chill missions, a pad will be more than enough! And once the trial period is done, there hopefully will be enough experience to know if you want to invest in a module and in a hotas.

    The point about dont use a controller is rubbish. If you dont want to waste a ton of money before you know you like the game, controller is a good choice and works well after doing some re-mapping. Might take you a half-hour and then you're good to jump in.
