After the Slayer himself, Samuel Hayden was my favorite character in DOOM 2016 because of his murky stance on the usage of Argent energy while still helping us. And of course, Darin DePaul brings such a badass voice to him. I'm sure that this video will *resooooooooooolve* any questions we have about the lore 🔥

Hayden's voice actor was nearly as good as Lance Henrikson in Mass Effect. VEGA is great too, While I prefer Cortana's humanity VEGA is pleasant to the ears.
I was confused as to why Hayden/Samur would be so aghast to the Slayer destroying the Argent towers if he knew it was made with tortured souls, now it kind of makes sense. Sacrificing a few for the many and keeping Hell at bay. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Amazing video.. I beat Doom Eternal and the expansions. It's one of my all time favorite games. I never played Doom 2016. I think I have to. This filled in a lot of parts of the story I was missing. Doom has one of the best stories of any video game. Thanks for the video!

One thing you're wrong about. Hugo once during stream stated that actually Samur dreamed to take Father's position and that's why he cleaned his memory and turned him into Vega. He was ok to sacrifice him when Slayer was about to destroy the core. He asked Doom Slayer to restore Father only because he was a victim to the transfiguration process...
I think as the prophecy foretells Samuel Hayden will have become corrupted by the crucible power. Leading him to somehow creating an army that conquers both heaven and hell.
So I suppose as a character analysis, Samual Hayden's general character can be summed up as being a person who could have been just as good as the Father. The Father himself seemed to be the ultimate good of his time, as he tried to stop Daveoth from spreading immortality and suffering among his very creations. We could see throughout the new Doom games that Samual did some good things, including giving power to the doom guy in order to stop the demon onslaught, disapprove of the Khan Maykrs rule, and as a robot, awaken the Doom Slayer and work towards saving human civilization from energy crisis problems. However with that said, the problem with Samual was his failure to see the bigger picture. He couldn't see that bringing argent energy to humanity only created more problems for their society by bringing the demons closer to Earth. When returning to his mayor form, he failed to consider that bringing the father back wasn't going to truly end the demon problem. And perhaps the biggest failure was Samual's lack of awareness for the reasons behind Doom Slayer's actions. If he just realized that argent energy's problems and analyzed the Doom Slayer more closely, he would have cause the invasions that we see in Doom 2016-Eternal. To sum up, I think Samual Hayden really want to be a good guy like Doom Slayer, although being extremely flawed and unable to see the bigger picture to things.

I've done research on religions and mystical teaching from around the world for about almost 2 years and I didn't realize how much the Doom lore parallels pieces of ancient texts, albeit Doom has added their own entirely new story, but the core essence of the story is still there

The music too also enhances this whole experience. But I believe it has to do with the heavy religious influences in the games. Humanity since the dawn of time has been fascinated, scared and zealous over anything superstitious, super-natural and godlike. This game puts all of that to the max. It has hell, heaven (urdak), other realms and all the gods and angels (maykrs). So not only does this game speak to a humanly need for understanding what is above and after us, it also shows an eternal struggle and immensely destructive conflict between all these forces. It was essentially a war between heaven and hell for example when hell fought the subjects of heaven (the Argenta people). This game is not just a senseless conflict or some other regular conflict-style storyline like in other games, it is a conflict about our deepest insecurities and fears of what lies beyond everything. Like I said, a war between fricking hell and heaven. The whole concept of this is absolutely surreal and almost instills a sense of psychological despair. These games show the absolute end in which heaven has forsaken us, and hell is about to destroy us. And then there is an unusual character that embodies what first seems like senseless rage and aggression, but is actually the 'prophet' that would save everything. The DoomSlayer speaks to us in another deep way that extreme emotions - especially negative ones - and aggression are not always per se a bad thing. They will always be a part of us and this formula of destruction is what is needed to stop hell itself. Can't wait for a "devil's advocate" episode on this, there were times I actually thought. "Wow, this guy is trying his best to follow his God's will. Which is, well certainly heavily favored to humanity, a fairly good deed. I mean, sure he left his own race to possibly die. But the bigger the person the bigger the flaws I suppose"
This is the third video in this series that I'm watching, and I just realised a plot hole: If the Maykrs are a hive mind, how did the Khan Maykr or Samur Maykr lie to each other or hide secrets?
Ever since TAG1 released, I always just assumed that Samur presented himself immediately to some UAC head runners and made a deal with them to forge the "Samuel Hayden" identity in return for an infinite energy source (Argent Energy). I think he immediately took on his robotic form and essentially made people believe that there was a "human" Samuel to keep his real identity hidden. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in TAG1 Atlantica mission, Samuel describes his maykr body as one of the oldest and most important UAC possessions, so if they had his body presumably before acquiring the Argent Energy, then it only makes sense that the UAC knew about his origins from the start, right? Just saying, because I'm not sure if Samur is capable of mimicking a human body as the video tries to imply. I think. Nonetheless, amazing story recap on the second most interesting character in the last two games. Sorry if what I said here turns out to be a pile of misinformation. *Peace*
I also want to mention a theory that there actually was a human version of Samuel Hayden. One that lived a life of a rich and educated man, only to lose a battle with cancer. Samur and the UAC saw this as an opportunity to use his death as a way of forging a new identity for Samur. Suddenly - to his coworker's surprise - Samuel came back but different, slightly more *metallic* so to speak. With a different behaviour and voice. Almost as if there was somebody else's soul in a body that was supposed to be his. I hope you see what I'm implying here.
@@mado-wh4jv I'm with you on the dimensions thing but Khan Maker herself stated that the slayer comes from (Not the exact quote I believe, but something along those lines) "Earth of the second dimension" implying that the earth from 2016 and Eternal isn't the same as from original Doom and Doom 2.
I know this is a take most Doom fans won’t agree with, but it is uncharacteristic of Sam to fight the slayer. Even after the father’s life sphere has been destroyed, he still would’ve helped the slayer since his holy mission has the same goal as the slayer does. A lot of the lore tries to show Samuel as an acolyte serving his Father, but it also highlights his self serving betrayal of the father. You can sugar coat it all you want, but he went against the word of his god so that he could have an Artificial Intelligence. Now, I’m not arguing that this makes him evil or anything like that, but it makes him smart and complex. TAG 1 throws all of this away because he couldn’t control the slayer (something he already knew from 2016-onwards) and that he was dying? I think that Samuel would welcome death after years of trying to accomplish what the father wanted. On this note, Samuel also knew Hell’s laws, as well as the fact that the divinity machine was imbued with the Dark Lord’s power, so it makes no logical sense to try and stop the slayer from unleashing him even if he was radicalized against the Dark Lord. It’s important to remember that this game was developed during the peak of the pandemic, so it’s always going to be a factor with these sorts of things, but they can still do better in the future, and I can still point out issues with the narrative.
I don't quite remember why the Slayer destroyed the Sphere of the father instead of just taking the Dark Lord and leaving. But then again, there is not much to understand about the slayer.
Doom was the first game I ever played when I was 3 years old in 1992. One of my dads friends had it on his computer and they let me try it. There was no chance I wasn’t going to be a gamer. I played doom 3 to the point of almost beating it on nightmare mode (4/5 of the way through and I just couldn’t crack it) then I waited 12 years for Doom 2016 to come out. F’ing loved this game! Honestly though, not a huge fan of Eternal. Impatiently waiting for Bloodborne 2.

Samur is one of my favorite characters in any game story. He's not totally evil, but his goals conflict with Doom Marine's so he has to be stopped.

Ever since TAG1 released, I always just assumed that Samur presented himself immediately to some UAC head runners and made a deal with them to forge the "Samuel Hayden" identity in return for an infinite energy source (Argent Energy).
I think he immediately took on his robotic form and essentially made people believe that there was a "human" Samuel to keep his real identity hidden.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in TAG1 Atlantica mission, Samuel describes his maykr body as one of the oldest and most important UAC possessions, so if they had his body presumably before acquiring the Argent Energy, then it only makes sense that the UAC knew about his origins from the start, right?
Just saying, because I'm not sure if Samur is capable of mimicking a human body as the video tries to imply. I think.
Nonetheless, amazing story recap on the second most interesting character in the last two games. Sorry if what I said here turns out to be a pile of misinformation.

I also want to mention a theory that there actually was a human version of Samuel Hayden. One that lived a life of a rich and educated man, only to lose a battle with cancer.
Samur and the UAC saw this as an opportunity to use his death as a way of forging a new identity for Samur.
Suddenly - to his coworker's surprise - Samuel came back but different, slightly more *metallic* so to speak. With a different behaviour and voice. Almost as if there was somebody else's soul in a body that was supposed to be his. I hope you see what I'm implying here.
@@mado-wh4jv I'm with you on the dimensions thing but Khan Maker herself stated that the slayer comes from (Not the exact quote I believe, but something along those lines) "Earth of the second dimension" implying that the earth from 2016 and Eternal isn't the same as from original Doom and Doom 2.

how on earth did you film the maps?
I know this is a take most Doom fans won’t agree with, but it is uncharacteristic of Sam to fight the slayer.
Even after the father’s life sphere has been destroyed, he still would’ve helped the slayer since his holy mission has the same goal as the slayer does.
A lot of the lore tries to show Samuel as an acolyte serving his Father, but it also highlights his self serving betrayal of the father.
You can sugar coat it all you want, but he went against the word of his god so that he could have an Artificial Intelligence.
Now, I’m not arguing that this makes him evil or anything like that, but it makes him smart and complex.
TAG 1 throws all of this away because he couldn’t control the slayer (something he already knew from 2016-onwards) and that he was dying?
I think that Samuel would welcome death after years of trying to accomplish what the father wanted.
On this note, Samuel also knew Hell’s laws, as well as the fact that the divinity machine was imbued with the Dark Lord’s power, so it makes no logical sense to try and stop the slayer from unleashing him even if he was radicalized against the Dark Lord.
It’s important to remember that this game was developed during the peak of the pandemic, so it’s always going to be a factor with these sorts of things, but they can still do better in the future, and I can still point out issues with the narrative.

I don't quite remember why the Slayer destroyed the Sphere of the father instead of just taking the Dark Lord and leaving. But then again, there is not much to understand about the slayer.

Doom was the first game I ever played when I was 3 years old in 1992. One of my dads friends had it on his computer and they let me try it. There was no chance I wasn’t going to be a gamer.
I played doom 3 to the point of almost beating it on nightmare mode (4/5 of the way through and I just couldn’t crack it) then I waited 12 years for Doom 2016 to come out. F’ing loved this game!
Honestly though, not a huge fan of Eternal.
