How many of these stolen statues and artefacts would be around today if they weren't there in the museum. The Elgin Marbles for example was actually bought to save it from being broken up for road infill? How many more would have been destroyed by warring factions and religious groups? There have recently been many ancient monuments destroyed in the Middle East.
Good point. It does seem like a safe place for them to be. I have heard some people going there to see treasures from their own country and thinking that otherwise they might not have been preserved.
As a greek I disagree! You can't compare Greece with Middle East. It's time to return the Elgin stolen marbles and put them in the amazing Acropolis museum!
@@_juan.joao_ If you are stupid it would be better to not confirm it by putting pen to paper. The Elgin marbles were purchased by Lord Elgin from the Greek authorities who were going to break them up and use the remains as hardcore in a road. So, tell me again, how were they stolen and why should they now be handed back? Perhaps we could consider selling them back, taking into account how priceless they are? Sterling, not Euros of course.
