Clones are so much closer to the original that you cannot tell the difference when you don't have the original. I have the originals of Tom Ford, but the clone is better, especially the Just Peach

This is a fantastic alternative! After a couple months of maceration (it definitely wasn’t up to par when I first got it) it has mellowed out and projects much better off my skin. It is missing the booziness on the later dry down that the original has, which is what I really enjoy from it, but it’s still very close and well rounded overall. I haven’t figured out when or where I’d wear it out, but have been really enjoying it just being around the house or even in bed.

@mikeycologne Me and my wife were down at Bluewater about 3 weeks ago in John Lewis and we smelt the OG. It reminded us both of cherry 🍒 bakewell cakes straight. She wasn't overly keen on it . I didn't mind it but I think I need to smell it again . I'll probably just end up buying this one to add to other 3 I bought. If a clone smells 90 - 95% close , then only the more discerning hooter will know, so no worries about wearing it 👌🏻

The OG Tom Ford is just as boozy, but it keeps the booziness for longer, whereas this one quickly goes floral and in the amaretto flavouring direction. 😄 Used it for layering quite a bit last year.

Sounds like a great layering scent.
What do you layer it with?
When I get mine, I'm thinking about trying it with By The Fireplace...a nice sweet smoky scent.
Would I put the cherry or smoke on first?

    • @justaddlight
      @justaddlight Před 2 měsíci

@@JustScottPaid It's quite floral in the mid, so I'd put on the smoke first. Ditto with vanillas or ouds. Sounds like a very decent combo!

Great review! The ethical argument surrounding clones has been on my mind for a while and I think I'm making headway. I certainly don't want to have a lower ethical standard simply due to not enough money...I'm not that kind of person. But neither am I looking for a justification for what I do, more of an exploration.
But, historically, clones and copies has been a way of life. In fact, apprenticeships are all about learning to copy. The master painters always taught pupils to start with mimicking their work. We've never been more concerned with copying being unethical as when we are dealing with copyright laws, I believe.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, on the one hand; and on the other, all these fragrance houses don't poop rainbows. But even in the art realm, you'll see diehards of Picasso, etc. who even look reverently at the simply breakfast sketch done on a napkin. And while there's a joy and a thrill with having evidence of the creative process, it doesn't mean that everything they were and are was masterful. We kid ourselves in this cult mentality.
Being rich takes more than one Hermes scarf. It's greater than a bottle of BR540. It's a lifestyle with connections and choices that are wholly different than my own. While I love sharing in some of those fineries, I also love the farm to table life, which is more in the muck and mire.
Sometimes, I enjoy the clones much more because they don't have the same names, which carry either a drug or sex theme or even a religious theme which I don't ethically enjoy. And then finally, not all expensive fragrances have finer ingredients...I'm convinced of that. As long as fragrances have synthetics in them, there's a subjective quality to that (now I know that many synthetics are expensive). Historically though, which has been done the best by the Middle East since forever, is when perfumes were all natural and this is where the money is at. And with regulations increasingly denying the fragrance community of the best and most powerful components, everything will eventually begin to settle into a not so happy middle anyway.
And at that point, what is being copied and who controls the fragrance game? The governments. We're closer to that point now... where all the colors are mixed and we'll be reviewing all the different shades of brown.
    Apologies for my lengthy ramble.

I think it's a personal choice, less about ethics for a lot people. Some people are complete frag heads and have money to spend. Others may just enjoy fragrances but can't afford to spend £200/£300/£400 on a single fragrance when you can buy 10 clones that get you a very good taste for that price.
Like you said, cloning happens everywhere, it's just how the world works.

Apply your ethics where it really matters not to Tom Fords net income. Lost Cherry is about £250 for 50 ml and last 2h. How ethical is that? 🤌

Bitter in front but soon cherry took prominent for next hour. I mistook sandalwood before i read internet notes are cedar + tonka.
