Exploring Huge Disused Farm (everything left behind)

  • Today we visit this huge abandoned farm. The farmhouse is close to collapse, the majority of the floor has already collapsed inside and most of the roof has come off. There was so much cool stuff to find, tractors, old machinery and even some old documents in a little trailer which we didn’t show to respect the owners privacy and keep this location hidden for as long as possible to avoid vandals destroying it. Sorry for the mistakes we made in naming the equipment, we were just guessing.
    Thank you very much for watching, we hope you enjoyed. If you did please leave a like, comment, subscribe and turn on notifications to ensure you never miss an upload from us.

    This farm is still in use although not what it once was. It looks like an old dairy to me. Sadly family owned dairies have been dropping like flies over the last decade due to the rise of commercial ones and tanking milk prices. Sadly all 7 in my home town have done the same when 15 years ago they were the place for a boy to get a job and get started in life. I weep for that family.

    Tyres were used to weight down a silage clamp sheet. Love the Ford tractor

  • @RolandMitchell
    @RolandMitchell Před 3 lety +2

    The Tyres were used To be Placed on silage: Every Year the Farmer would Have his Tractor Drivers go into Grass fields and Use Gigantic Mowers which were towed at the Back of the Tractor: as the Grass was Mown another Tractor and trailer would Be loaded up with Fresh Mown Grass. Trailer load after Trailer load would be Taken to a Barn; where the Mown Grass would be Piled up: A Tractor with a set of Iron Rollers would Press Down the Mown Grass until it was Compacted down. A Plastic sheet would be Placed over the top of the Mown Grass; Over the Coming Months The Grass would Turn Brown like autumn Leaves: when it Becomes that Colour It now is Called Silage: The Cover of Plastic is weighed down with old Tyres ! This serves two or maybe three Purposes (1) To stop wind Blowing the Sheet away (2) to Prevent Air getting in and Causing the Silage to Get Fungi ) and to stop Cows Getting on top. Come winter: the cows would Be able to Get into the Barn and to Eat the Silage. Silage Gives off a Lot Of Steam like that of a Compost heap and it stinks Horrible: Tyres were Given to the Farmers from the Tyre fitters they'd dispose of them

    It breaks my heart to see places like this, what I wouldn't give to have a little land, that was a fairly big farm for the amount of buildings, indoor silage clamp, calf cubicles etc. The jcb loadall was a wicked bit of kit back in it's day we had a 525-67 the same as that on my family farm when I was growing up. They're must have been other tractors once soon a time there's no way those little db's would have pulled the forigers,silage trailers or the 4 furrow plough, very interesting Mr Bond, I'd give my left nut for a place a 1/3 the side of that. Good vid, mad me laugh what you called a few of the bits of kit but like you said you haven't a clue.

    The plastic is from wrapped silage bales, the tyres are used as weights to keep the sheeting down that is used to cover up the silage that is cut by the green claas forage harvesters ( not combine harvesters). The forage harvesters are pulled by the tractor and blown into a trailer, which, can either pulled behind the forage harvester or, a trailer pulled by 2nd tractor usually at the side of the forage harvester. Once the trailers full, its carted back to a silage clamp where its stockpiled. Once the clamps full, its then covered over with plastic sheeting, weighted down with tyres and left to ferment until ready for the coos to eat.....phew!

Also we try and respect the owners of any place we visit, all we are trying to do is document these places before they become destroyed.

    Adandoned dairy farm , the pile of tyres would have been used to cover a silage clamp. Think the old estate car was a Lada.

When I said it was in the Lake District that was a very rough placement just so he had an idea of what part of the country it was in, it could be in the lakes or could be 50, 60, 70+ miles from the Lake District like I said it was a very rough placement just so he had somewhat of an idea of where it is in the UK.

    Cool old dairy farm!
    I assume you did not have permission to enter, tresspassing can be detrimental to a person's health.. just saying.
    As others have said, it's not abandoned, looks like the JCB loader has been used recently...and a lot of traffic in the yard. Also, sure looks like there's still livestock somewhere.....
    The tires and plastic would have been to cover the silage pile... I also like the two old Claas forage harvesters (silage choppers) that you called combines...

    The farm Isn't abandoned near end of video there is a new cattle crush and drinker. Good chance it's a out farm or rented by a larger farm. Shame the buildings are so run down but looks as if the previous owner has had financial difficulties or lack of succession by family members to maintain or update buildings. Apart from the shed out the back and the plough, the rest of the farm is in disuse so I don’t really see why everyone is making a fuss and they’re saying that you don’t know jack shit about machinery but you aren’t from a farming background so why would you know it? They’re just making a fuss about nothing. I completely agree go online try and find similar peices of machinery and leave the name of the peice the age and brand and model at the bottom for beginners in this type of thing if you like viewers would tell you the names of the machinery for example the three white ones are David browns possibly 995s 1960 roughly maybe later the black dark grey one is an international b something same era the blue one in the shed with the loader is a ford 6610 or something similar

    Agreeing with everyone else it wasn't abandoned. I watched this video half way through last year but didn't think to comment but it came up on my newsfeed so I watched all of it this time. We own a few disused farms that we don't live at but we still use the sheds. A couple lads broke into a lower hay loft and injured their leg after falling through some rotten floorboards. We were held responsible and the boys got off with a broken leg and a bollocking from the police. Point being make sure you actually know its abandoned. If you see fresh tyre marks and new gates don't go near unless you have permission. BTW the black plastic is from a silage bale. And the tyres are for the silage clamp behind them.

    • @exploringwithatj3716
      @exploringwithatj3716  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for the info, please be ensured we didn’t break into any buildings, all the entrances that we used were unlocked or open and as you saw the building that was locked we didn’t break anything to get into it, we just left it and we did check the buildings before we actually started filming to make sure we knew which were safe to go into and which were not. We were given info about the place from a few people we got in touch with and we were told that at least one farmer used the access through the farm to access their own fields at the back of this farm. Thanks for the info about the silage though, very interesting to know.
