    The core reveal will always be one of the most painful moments in the show.
    It’s one of the few moments we see Lan Zhan vulnerable and emotional. He’s hurt that his beloved suffered through all that and no one, not even his own brother, knew.
    And Jiang Cheng realizes, too, that he’s been wrong all this time. He was wrong, because he thought Wei Ying was selfish and abandoned him. He believed Wei Ying didn’t love him at all as a brother, and he believed that Wei Ying betrayed them. But in reality, Jiang Cheng realizes, all of those assumptions were wrong.
    All three men, the three men that are most important to Wei Ying, understand now that Wei Ying was anything but selfish, arrogant, and careless.
    Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan now realize the extent of his love for those important to him. They realize now the lengths Wei Ying will go to keep everyone he loves safe. He never once cared what that would do to him.
    Jiang Cheng loves his brother but he covered that with anger and hatred when Wei Ying chose the Wens. And those negative emotions grew and festered, until they were the only things Jiang Cheng felt towards Wei Ying. So when he is now confronted with the truth, he does jot know how to feel, because he feels all the good and bad things all at once.

    This was probably the bravest thing Wen Ning had ever done on his own. Defending his best friend and giving Jiang Cheng the painful truth. Maybe, deep down, Wen Ning still thinks this is all his fault.
    Jiang Cheng…. He’s close to losing it in this scene… realizing this might’ve all been avoided if they just TALKED… he even started thinking that this all could’ve been HIS fault…
    Lan Wangji… I wish we could’ve known what was going through his head. Realizing just how deep his beloved’s selflessness goes, allowing the world to slander him for doing a good deed.. maybe even wondering if it was HIS fault.
    Everyone believes they’re to blame, especially Wei Wuxian himself. But this isn’t a blame game. This is just unforeseen circumstances that happened on unsuspecting people. What’s done has been done.

      As for Lan Zhan, he’s probably questioning WHY. Why didn’t he try harder? Why didn’t he talk to Wei Ying? Why didn’t he just fight for Wei Ying?

      Lan WangJi - 100% agree!! Reading the novel, that was my number one question and frustration, where I’m always asking why why why??? Why can’t we get a glimpse inside Lan Wangji’s head? You get a glimpse of everyone’s head, even small side characters but never Lan WangJi. Most of the time he’s so cold and rigid and doesn’t expresses his feeling at all and you constantly want to know what’s going on in that pretty head of his. That’s where the frustrations kicks in for me but other than that, love the novel and have no complaints.

      @IvanIsYda_ Před 2 lety +19

      @@redstarseed514 i never had a proper answer for these questions before, but now going through literary discourse analysis with several discord friends already, I finally have an answer: we’re viewing the book from Wei Wuxian’s point of view. It’s his understanding of the situation as he is the main target of speculation in the cultivation world. The conflict revolves around him and his acceptance of the consequences of his actions and himself as a person. While it would be nice to know what Wangji was thinking, the story is more of Wuxian’s than it is Wangji’s. Wangji isn’t the one who made a grave error and has to rectify it-it was Wuxian who did that. Thus it only makes sense to have 1 POV, and that is Wei Wuxian’s.

This scene is so moving with the raw emotions as they reveal the truth of Wei Ying's sacrificing his spiritual core for his brother. These 3 should have won an acting award for this scene performance. Especially Wen Ning. To me he is so underrated for this movie. In my personal opinion only, I do agree that JC loves WWX but on a very surface level. His love for WWX was definitely not as deep as the love WWX gave him in return. He enjoyed WWX company and enjoyed playing with him but does not love him enough to willingly sacrifice for him. Yes there was that one scene where he did distract the guards while helping WWX escaped but it’s more out of impulse and reaction to the urgent situation than of reasoning self sacrificing.
    When it comes to love, there’s a clear distinction between his love for WWX and his sister love for WWX. For his sister, WWX was her younger brother and she loves him unconditionally. For JC, we clearly saw the clan leader and his need for a loyal subordinate to support him. Through all those sect leaders meetings and kill WWX rampage events, he barely put in a good word for WWX but automatically full of rage when his ego and position were at stake. I do completely agree with JGY’s explanation of how weak his bond was with WWX and how others clearly saw this as well and was able to easily used it to their advantages. JGY was after all highly intelligent and can read people easily and see things for what they truly are. Besides JGY, JC was the primary person why WWX had to go through so much suffering.
    Even his love for WQ was very surface level and he couldn’t or wouldn’t do anything for her. Instead of admitting or understanding his love for her, he rather just blame her and hate her for being a Wen. That would be easier for HIM. Yeah yeah clan leader, responsibility and what not, they’re all just excuses. He’s just like his mother (hold authority/ego higher than relationship) and his father saw right through it and said he’ll never be able to understand the true teaching of the Jiang. In the novel or in the drama, he never did ended up in a decent relationship because of his character.

      @svetlanalvova1128 Před 2 lety +15

      (Shrug) if you want to see it only in black and white, strictly from the position of WWX,sure. It doesn't change either the fact that WWX is the one that withheld info from JC, which started the whole mess between them, or the fact that, no matter what his intentions were, WWX was the liar in their relations, not JC. As for JGY in the acene you mention, he truly had the silver tongue of a quick-witted manipulating liar. That little scene was built on JGY changing the proportions of the significance of the parts of the story placing the accent on JC and totally omitting the part of WWX's part in the tragedy. So it is important for purposes of objectivity not to downplay the role of JC's responsibility as a Sect Leader, but more importantly - as a son and a Clan Leader, taking into account that the two are not the same. Also, you cannot disregards the importance of Confucianism, especially its filial piety and respect for the family part, which has always had a enormous influence on Chinese culture. As far as I am concerned, JC is very far from an angel, but neither is WWX's naive idealism. WWX and JC are equally at fault for the mess in their relations.

      @@svetlanalvova1128 however jc attitude was the reason Wei couldn’t be honest because let’s be real there issue started way before the core transplants and way before the parents death. JGY was not completely wrong in his assessment that why jc reacted to what he said because deep he knows it’s true . In no way wei wuxian was completely innocent but jc was not always a good brother .he tried to be but he allowed his mother and his own insecurities cause him the relationship he had with his brother and that’s the reality of it

    • @svetlanalvova1128
      @svetlanalvova1128 Před 2 lety +8

      @@lisadell8103 I agree, but with different proportions and nuances. The way I see it, the issue was totally and completely created by JC's parents and the way they brought up the kids, including messing with the positions of JC and WWX in the Sect structure and their personal relations. Jiang FengMian (JFM) wants one thing, Yu ZiYuan (YZY) wants the opposite. JC and WWX up to and including Gusu lectures are officially the Clan and Sect Heir and his subordinate employee, the Dashixiong of Yunmeng Jiang, on one hand. On the other hand, WWX is the emotional leader in their very close, truly sibling relations, up to the time of the core transfer. JC is emotionally undeveloped for his age, trained in pragmatism, a realist, his social skills are based not on feelings, but on the rational. He has basic political training. He has zero training at what to do with his emotions, so his classic reaction is anger and rage.Because JC is raised to be an Heir in YZY's image, he doesn't have close relations with other disciples. Because JFM and YZY are never satisfied with JC, and JYL is older sister, in effect, a non-cultivator and not a part of their daily routine, WWX is JC's closest companion, trusted confident, main emotional support and competition. Because JC's feeling and emotions are so undeveloped, plus he is very guarded about about people coming close to him and has unsurprisingly serious trust issues, he has enormous difficulties creating emotional ties with people around him. He loves his parents, but does he trust them with his feelings and emotions? I think not. Outside of his family and WWX, I see only Nie HuaiSang near him. Under such limiting circumstances, it is no surprise that WWX, the absolutely closest to him, is very important to JC in a mix of complicated and intertwined ways. To JC the promise WWX gave him after the Xuanwu Cave, especially after the scene between JFM and YZY, is about acceptance, support and trust and thus profoundly important to JC and taken by him very seriously. Plus, JC is no schemer.
      Putting JC aside for the moment, and concentrating on WWX, he was maneuvering and was accustomed to maneuvering between Jiang FengMian (JFM), Yu ZiYuan (YZY) and JC. (One of the results is his ability to skilfully evade answering questions he doesn't want to answer. ) That is the background for his lies. I can think of few things worse for a kid than to be growing up without a clear understanding of what his place is in the structure of the family, what he can and cannot claim as his, including the rights and obligations that are his due. As a consequence, WWX is emotionally well developed for his age, socially skilled, an idealist with no training in the pragmatism of politics. He intelligent enough to see the picture, but doesn't have the skills to within it. Sect leadership and the everyday responsibilities that come with it are a vague idea to him. I see this as important, because after the fall of Lotus Pier, JC is first and foremost the Sect Leader of Yunmeng Jiang. He cannot be anything else, because this is what defines him. WWX understands this in theory, but not in practice. In terms of running the YMJ Sect, he does not understand that JC, in his defining capacity of young, unexperienced Sect Leader rebuilding of a fallen Sect in a post-war struggle for power between Sects, NEEDS to know what he can rely on and cannot afford to be lied to by the one person he trusts the most and for the longest time. From the way I see things, in terms of the duties and obligations between a Sect Leader and the Sect Dashixiong, although WWX, to my mind, fails to realize that he HAS to take these relations into account, WWX not only has a duty, but also an obligation to tell JC of the core transfer and that the YMJ Sect does not in reality have a Head Disciple the Sect Leader can rely on. This has absolutely nothing to do with their personal relations or with how JC and WWX feel about each other. WWX understand that JC is the Sect Leader, but....he doesn't get that there is more involved than just JC's feelings. And I won't go into the subject of the Wens and JC's absolute hatred of them for several reasons. In the end, WWX not giving any kind of explanation to JC for the changes in his behaviour and his siding with Wens, which is a political issue on top of everything else, is what started JC's distrust of WWX. Which leads to the JC/JGY scene at the GuanYin Temple.
      I agree about JGY, but with, I suspect, different proportions and nuances. The sequence of the scenes is that there is first the talk between JGY and WWX, which end in with JGY asking WWX whether how JGY has retold the events not a better way for WWX to feel about them. A JGY interpretation is in play and WWX is emotionally shaken. And then JC comes up with something like "you son of a prostitute, you have no shame as long as you climb the ladder", the first part of which is a surefire trigger for JGY. JGY is not wrong, but, just as with WWX in the previous scene, what JGY tells in response to the JC's insult is an interpretation that is meant, as with WWX before, to breach JC's defences, throw his feelings in disarray by making him feel guilty and keep him from thinking straight. An opponent that can't think straight is a weakened opponent.

    When i first read the novel back in 2017, I remember thinking after the first chapter, "Oh wow, so the main character was the villain! It'll be fun to see how a villainous/murderous character works as the protagonist, a very unique point of view."
    By the end of the series, I was just so in love and yet broken hearted at WWX as a character. He was so complex - happy and easy-going, kind and considerate, fiery and protective, flirty and sweet, smart and cunning. He would (and did) gladly sacrifice himself for the benefit of others. He really always did the best he possibly could, and yet he so rarely had people on his side supporting him, and there is only so much one person can do.
    The only ones trying to support him were the Wens, and he remained loyal and protective of them, yet that just made him more and more enemies. He stood his ground and tried the best he could for as long as possible, but with so much against him and with so much violence surrounding the whole cultivator community, it was inevitable for others to get hurt.
    The deaths of the Jiangs and of his sister and brother-in-law were extremely unfortunate and completely destroyed his happiness and hope, and yet Jiang Cheng repeatedly threw it in his face as if it was what his goal was all along. This poor man just wanted to help those who were innocent and who had also helped him, and his entire life was destroyed for it. Hes a truly tragic character and one who was most deserving of a happy domestic life at the end

Weing was frankly a big help to the five clan but I loved Lanshan vulnerability just to show that he is human but I guess anything that concerns his Weing concerns him. The film was one of the best I have so far watched. The BRS was amazing too.
