1. Keep your brand strong
After winning championships in high school and college, he was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers.
2. Stop being fearful
He was first dubbed "Magic" as a 15-year-old playing for Everett High School, when he recorded a triple-double.
3. Dream big
He won four more championships with the Lakers during the 1980s.
4. Hustle
He retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had contracted HIV, but returned to play in the 1992 All-Star Game.
5. Know your customer
After protests from his fellow players, he retired again for four years.
6. Learn to listen
He returned again, at age 36, to play 32 games for the Lakers before retiring for the third and final time.
7. Make your team better
His career achievements include three NBA MVP Awards, and nine NBA Finals appearances.
8. Have tough skin
He was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996.
9. Be a perfectionist
He has numerous business interests, and was a part-owner of the Lakers for several years.
10. Appreciate your rivals
His friendship and rivalry with Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, are well documented.

I'd love to see Earvin "Magic" Johnson's top 10 rules. He's one of the greatest basketball players ever, an incredibly likeable person and he also has one of the most succesful post-sports careers. Plus he's had to overcome quite some adversity, including being tested HIV positive back in 1991 and the stigma surrounding that virus, which he helped reduce over the years. I'm one of the biggest Magic fans you will ever find. I've been following him since he was in high school. However I'm much more proud of what he's done off the court than on the court.

Although he mostly played before my time he's one of my all-time favourite players, has also been successful after his basketball career and has been through some very tough times, yet still seems to always have a smile on his face. Evan thank you for doing this piece on MJ! He was my guy as a youth growing up in L.A. and he is still my guy. I have been learning from him since I was five years old. My favorite of your top 10 is Have Tough Skin. I'm a husband, father, teacher, coach, and a football official. There is not one area of my life that I will have a remote chance of being successful in, if I for a moment relinquish to having soft skin. All I do is solve problems, squash disagreements, and over deliver in the area of communication. Evan, I asked you a while back to do this and I'm so glad you did. My favorites were dreaming big and learning to listen. Dream big because thats what Im doing now, doing my homework to make a difference and learning to listen because my opinion isn't enough. Learning and listening other mistakes and achievements promotes growth.

Appreciating your rivals is important because without them challenging you in the most competitive, even hostle situation at times, they forced you to evolve. great video. this video helped my look at situations differently. #BTA4

Thank you Evan, Magic Johnson's tips didn't so much change my views but kept them firm. In particular, perfectionism and that it's not all about me, it's God putting me (as with everyone else) to make this world a little better. I love Magic's humility and gratefulness. This video also showed me that other's have had it much harder than me. Thanks again. Good stuff will come to you, I'm sure it already is, but one day, it will come to you much bigger for the good work you are doing. I don't think these video are just for you as you claim, I think think you're being humble and maybe trying to stay neutral by giving out all your reasons.
