Man, the laundry room closet at 11:10 was such a perfect moment. Shows you what a smart developer can do without using loud-noised jumpscares.

This is what is wrong with indie horror games imo. Stuff like that which is nightmare inducing at least to me and most developers are like "yup imma create a loud ass horror game full of jumpscares".
Imo I think I prefer jumpscares, they're to the point. I don't play horror games but any game with a scary section or ominous part creeps me out alot. I don't like feeling something is watching me there's something under ever desk, around every corner etc.
I rather be scared and let it be over with

The scariest part of the game, is the fact the upstairs bathroom doesn't have a shower curtain.
I think most of the items in the house are stand in props. So they expect you to bring your own curtains and such.
I can only imagine the water getting everywhere... terrifying
The movement in this game is actually unnerving im not even going to lie.

That trick can work in many settings. Retail job? Just substitute stack of paper for a couple items of inventory with a look of slight confusion as to their proper location.

This game is definitely something else. The closet part was such a creepy moment and such are others like the part were "It" is 'spawned' and so forth, I haven't been creeped out by a game like that since imscared demo in 2012

If you like stuff like that you should check out a game called “Decay”, it’s a multipart series on Xbox 360 filled with that kind of creepy shit. Nothing jumpscary but just creepy enough to fill you with udder dread. It’s great

Well, something I’ve noticed is when the restore point sends you back to an hour ago when the house was last scanned, the house is the scene of a murder, with blood and other things everywhere, so maybe what the agent means by recently redone is…, well, RECENTLY redone. As in they cleaned and removed the tiles and whatnot an hour ago. The agent didn’t specify how recently after all.

I really like that they used the Residential HQ asset for this. It gave off a very "samey" vibe that you can get looking at open houses. I think it really added to the mundane, unassuming hook of the beginning.

My mom is on the frontline (social worker) at our hospital and to see her come home everyday so tired and defeated after telling families someone they love is in danger, what limited options they have to save them, etc. breaks my heart. John is destined to keep stumbling into HQ Residential House, it's the end point of all horrors. I have watched 3 different ytubers playing this and somehow I still need John's snarky take on it lol.
Speaking of this game, so the Open House app is haunted and somehow ends up with the client "accepting" the offer and getting killed? Wonder if the user of the app is "compelled" to finish touring the app until their demise, if this is a curse then it makes sense. If not, the most logical thing to do is to simply close the app when something weird and creepy shows up.
I think the game is meant to be like a WIP virtual open house, hence the "Alpha", for some semi-sleazy realistate company.
The story I took from it was, At some point in the past, a man was driven to murder his family by a demon, sacrificing them to it as an offering. Later the house was renovated then put for sale by a realistate co, and made part of the VOH, but the demon being still present in the house and requiring sacrifices, somehow altered parts of the virtual open house. In order to take full control of the VOH, it needed the player to look at the things, once all of them were looked at, "Its inside" meaning the demon is inside the VOH. Then compelling the player to complete the VOH by drastically changing the house layout, resulting them to "make offer" aka offering them selves as a sacrifice to the demon.
The whiteboard saying, "Don't look at it" may of been the spirit of one of the family warning the player not to look at the things. The man in the closet and reflection may of been the spirit if the man who killed his family, now forever trapped within the house.

Lol, I’m guessing you haven’t started shaving yet. You use a razor, and they don’t break easily. He’ll probably use an electric one to trim it down because it’s so thick, and then a normal razor to get the stubble.

I think this is one of the few times I actually like the use of HQ residential house. This was a pretty good game imo, this developer/team has repeatedly created some pretty well made and creative games.

Adam I agree! I’d personally love to see more coming out of this concept. It’s honestly really intriguing to use a virtual open house experience as a horror tool, and it could do wonders if executed well in other occasions.
The thing about the HQ house is that it felt downright Uncanny valley in this game, it's so familiar that it just felt so.. weird and bizarre with how this game handled it

I liked this game a lot, it really freaked me out (especially at the beginning) with your slow click movements and especially that laundry room movement which was 10x more creepier without the noise and very unsettling. The game was just a very unsettling game for me.

23:47 this is a big part of the reason DDLC (doki doki literature club) is one of my favorite games of all time.
I really love this one, fantastic buildup of tension, genuinely unsettling.
the deliberate turns like the suspense of turning a page, the subtle differences gradually building to total structural decay, the use of sound or _lack thereof_
a very good example of "less is more"
you get this full picture of the _struggle_ of it all without actually _seeing_ it happen. front door left ajar, the empty spot in the garage where the shovel was, the killer laying in wait in the laundry room closet, him capturing his victim and dragging them as they scratch at the wall for purchase - it's all very quietly disturbing.
and portraying it through an open house - a fresh start for a happy family, and with the quiet corrections of the things you're not supposed to look at, it's like this grim reminder that once all evidence of what happened there is scrubbed away, the house goes back on the market for some other family who will likely take the very same virtual tour.
Pretty creative! I really dig the changing up the control scheme!
Just watched the whole stream 9+ hours raised 4,000+ and got john in a dress and makeup and also shaved his beard off completely
I recognized the house right away and it was priceless to see his reaction of yet another game using that house
Holy crow, an HQ Residential House that's used well! I actually really like it here because with how overused it is, it fits the "yes here's a nice house the guy is generically selling us" theme even better. Speaking of that guy, whoever they used as a model for him was pretty much perfect. He was clearly having fun posing for all of the 'dialogue.' I thought this was a super neat title, and I've enjoyed everything this dev has done so far!
Something I forgot to say when I noticed it in another of your charity announcements: loving the Danganronpa music! I just started the series in April and have finished all but V3, which I'm actually in the process of starting now. It's very good, and while I knew you were a fan of it, it's great to be able to recognize when you're referencing/using music from it now. =)
Me watching this in 2022 and listening to the charity intro. Hearing "NSW rural fire service" in the mentions honestly threw me through for a loop. I was wondering why I had no clue you raised money for my state's fire crisis back in January, and then I realised it was because I was in the middle of said fire crisis.

This one was effective, and a fun concept, but I feel like the second half and endings were a bit too try-hard and wind up ruining the scariness.
I think the change in control scheme is cool, and at least set up at the beginning with the "nano drones" remark, but I agree the surreal stuff in the first half is MUCH stronger
