  • The Drake Passage, known as the world's, most hazardous sea route, has remained largely untraveled by humans for millennia. While it was widely believed that the primary objective behind constructing the Panama Canal was to establish a direct link between the American eastern coast and South America, providing a shorter route for global trade, this was indeed true. However, it wasn't the sole rationale for the canal's construction. Another significant motivation for building the Panama Canal was to circumvent the perilous 620-mile stretch between Antarctica and Cape Horn, a route that ships sought to avoid.
