Russian Circles and Red Sparrows would always be in my top list of music makers of all time. They're just brilliant. It is quite weird what sort of sensations you get when listening to those two bands. I still remember back in 2013 when i first stumbled on them while i was sitting in the computer lab studying for some random course during my bachelor studies back in Cyprus. I felt that this music really allows you to be present with yourself, listening to the sounds of the instruments, some weird ass pure connection with oneself, it is deep (at least when we want to take it there). Now 10 years later, it is still going strong - it reminds me of the old days and how far we've come when we look back and reflect. I also love to entertain the thought that the band members of (Russian Circles and Red Sparrows) are just talented humans who just created those sounds together in the studio, experimenting, having fun, solving challenges, and having a beer just like us humans. There is so much that we can appreciate from every person we see around in our lives (of course some are pure shit too, not the soul inside them, but the state they are in reflect to their outer actions and stuff). What i am trying to say is that such music is a blessing, like many other things in life, enjoy it and be present with it whenever you can. For me among many other songs of Russian circles my favs are: Youngblood, Verses, Vorel ,Bloom, Sinaia, 1777, and Memorial are definitely a masterpiece.
these guys are full on atmosphere selectionist masters, it's like listening to an orchestral masterpiece, all those ups and downs creeps and sprints....top class.
i've spent so many hours listening to this as i was drawing... This band gives me the ambition to draw as good as they play. Thank you for sharing mate, this is one of the most wonderful gift the Net's gave to me... And i take my pen one more time, one more time, one more time...
I'm getting that "accidentally stumbling on the album" feeling right now O_O Too soon to say if it's going to be huge for me, but... I'm liking it a lot! :D
Tyler Watson As I begin to listen, your comment is taken as reference. Once a friend of mine said, as I was showing him certain band, "I didn't know the music I like existed".
+Living Pie Holy shit-I was just painting to this album and thinking the same thing! I was just imagining what this band could be like with the right type of vocalist...one that would add depth and emotion...maybe someone is out there to do just that...but this instumental shit is AMAZING!
I just recently found out about this band, and every single song absolutely blows me away. The atmosphere, followed by moments of intense heaviness .... just really damn impressive.
Music is like a highway you can rode onto, whenever there is a junction ahead... You turn, don't use words as a signal or indicator. Now, a Good road will take you onto a great adjourn journey endlessly...
I knew nothing about Russian Circles, until one night while waiting in line at Slim’s, SF, (seeing Riverside) a very special young lady told me about Russian Circles. Just by word of mouth, I bought me a ticket to see them in SF at August Hall, I am so glad I did. After listening to them on CZcams, I can’t wait. It’s gonna be a hot show. I plan to get there early in hopes of enjoying good company and good conversations with the same special young lady who turned me on to Russian Circles. I ran into her while exiting Slim’s/Riverside, and I thanked her and said, “I hope our paths meet again someday “. I’m sure we will.
I always come back to the albums Station and Enter. I go lengthy periods of times, years, without hearing them. Then my brain all of a sudden says, "Russian Circles", and I gorge myself upon these wonderful albums. Truly legendary and timeless. Been listening to Russian Circles since the mid 2000's. Goddamn I'm old.
Saw these guys last night, going in and never hearing a single song from them. They were incredible, mosh pits ensued, headbanging galore. It was glorious. Now I need to listen to everything they ever made. God, I wish I had a time machine to go back a night.
I like to listen to heavy music with soaring vocals and the searing screams of powerful vocalists, and so instrumental music doesn't normally strike me as especially appealing. But...my God...what is this incredible-ness? Fuck me this is awesome...
What this album is helping with -- Helping gather emotions , cloister them close, so that they do not disintegrate into violent actions and words. I am in another world, where I know mere mortals cannot hurt me.
gogolplex74 Dave Turncrantz (The drummer here) is one of the best drummers alive today. It's such a shame that this guy isn't a household name. Incredibly underrated and incredibly skilled.
+logicalfallacy234 I'm a drummer and while I don't think what he's doing here is as technically mind blowing as some of the household names he is truly inspirational in terms of spot on emotive and unique ways of bringing the music to life. I find myself more influenced by him than the classic drummers everyone talks about.
Frank Canepa His emotional way of playing is exactly what I love so much about him. He's a great example of how a drummer can make his playing emotional.
+777Dubliner i agree on your statement that this could very well be enhanced to a level of greatness not possible to reach without the influence of drugs like thc but i think every listener no matter who can apreciate it in his own state of life. you gotta think of what people go through in their lives which is from my perspective never easy and i personally feel like gettin here and liking it is like saying i found something i found living is worth for.. thats just my opinion though
+der Mann People like you are public enemy number one. Marijuana saves people's lives and improves many others without getting high. End the war on the people. Stoner lives matter
I love that there's no singing. I know how that sounds, but it really gives you the chance to focus on the what the instruments can do. Not only that, it allows/forces the players to pull everything they can out of themselves and their instruments. Fuck, it's just so awesome.
I feel that, when listening t songs with lyrics, more often than not the words seem to be shoe-horned in with the instruments, distracting from the overall musical experience. But there's that rare occasion I find a song where words and music fit as if they're made for each other. But not often.
+Zach Bidgood I heard that the ancient druids would segregate bardic training groups that belonged to singers & instrumentalists. They considered the combination to distract & ultimately consume the identity of either sound. An extreme point of view, but one not without a kernel of truth.
Alan Evans Well, the thing is: It's simultaneously their most post-rockish AND their most post-metalish. Tracks like campaign, xavii and verses would be post-rock, while station and youngblood(my second favorite!) would be post-metal. The second track on the album is their more familiar black metal. I love this album, probably my favorite from RC.
i can't believe i only came across these guys 2 years ago. so so good. there is just zero fat on their music, it's so streamlined, elegant, and visceral as fuck-all...
You probably shouldn't test headphones with a youtube video haha :D Compared to other forms of listening to music, CZcams has a fairly low sound quality.
In the army I was a cook. When I got promoted after six months of service I came to the ceremony in my cooking jacket. When asked if I couldn't have changed I said: "No, I'm on duty" and proceeded to make desert.
This is very progressive and extremely soft on the ears, even as it kicks up I can see myself listening to this as the sun goes down while sitting in a lawn chair in my back yard sipping on jagger. I'm going to have a good day today.
When I first heard these guys I found Enter on my windows media player and loved it, but when I moved out my parents deleted everything off of the computer. I rediscovered them maybe 4 years ago and I'm glad there is such a great group of people that share this amazing music on the internet. I saw these guys a couple of years ago with between the buried and me and coheed and cambria, gotta say that was the best show i've been to. These guys killed it and if I remember right they opened with harper lewis. would love to see them again and I recommend going if you have the chance.
Riverside, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson. Animals as Leaders, Ozric Tentacles. Give them a listen. Russian Circles are very good, but the artists I mentioned are on another level
After coming back to this and seeing them many times live, I'm even more blown away. So amazing for one guitarist to sample himself so proficiently in a way that serves the song and not his own virtuosity. Timeless beauty. Russian Circles will always be for me.
richard Clark it's kind of funny to imagine the soldiers as chefs and chefs as soldiers because considering the t.v airtime chefs get for cooking shows you'd think americas new idols were culinary superheros. Apparently that's what happened with rome, the fall of an empire began with the end of conquests, then spending wealth and living lavishly, placing chefs at the top above soldiers that died for their country and the whole thing crumbled from the inside. a sign of things to come..
Truly a beautiful record. They really know how to create amazing atmospheres. The songs take you by the throat: they are gloomy, hypnotic, obsessive, highly emotional and, at times, even dreamy and hopeful.

"When I look at photos of men from my grandfather’s and even my dad’s generation, I can see a sense of purpose in the eyes of those men. Yet when I look at men today, I often don’t sense that kind of steely focus. Instead, I see dudes who are just sort of drifting along whichever way life pulls them. I’ve heard a lot of men my age complain of a sense of shiftlessness. They don’t have the drive, purpose, and ambition that our forbearers had, and they feel adrift."
It's because our generation has ample opportunity when it comes to choosing our own life path. Unfortunately this creates the phenomenon 'fomo' (fear of missing out) that gives us that overbearing thought of 'what if?' Our only guidance for our life path now are ourselves and without an exterior crisis (like the wars during our fathers and grandfathers time) or culture determining our life path (you succeed your fathers occupation) then we have a lot of modern day men thinking if they're decision is really the right one. I think the exception for this in modern times are either, people who are truly grounded which can be achieved through meditation and life experiences and those who grew up in troubled households and have the tough exterior to move forward in life. Just an opinion I thought id share because im procrastinating on this exam study lel. Good album too.
This band has grown so quickly, I first found out about these guys maybe only a few months ago and this video didn't have many views; already they're becoming quite popular... Fantastic!
The girl who checked me out at the bookstore was wearing a Russian Circles shirt, and it was a very cool shirt. And when I asked her about it, she went on and on about great this band is. And I concur
Just heard this for the first time ever and I have to say that this band is outstanding!! I like that they aren't too technical but still progressive and very ambitious. Remarkable work!!

Wow-Xavii is stunning. Thanks for amazing music and for posting it. A while ago was bipolar on a low now bipolar on a high. Probably, a few days away from being 64, one of postrock's older fans but music like this is ageless
Do it the right way mate ;) No more Wallmart, no more headphones, back to savage times as well, to nature, whatever. That's what still disappoints me you know, when you come back from a holiday trip. Yeah, that was much pleasant to be quiet in the mountains for a few days, but it's so good to get your ears back on some good music. A return to civilization, home sweet home kinda.

To this date almost 6 years old and still brilliant post-rock... Kind of one of the foundations of the genre.
It's been almost 4 years since I accidentally stumbled upon this album. It's still one of the best things that's ever happened to me.
I'm getting that "accidentally stumbling on the album" feeling right now O_O Too soon to say if it's going to be huge for me, but... I'm liking it a lot! :D

You may!
This is an artist's dream.
Such great music to draw to.

Tool needs a singer? Oh shit-that's right. That guy had a sex change and is out of music now right? I forgot about that shit!

it wouldn't be post rock anymore. Actions speak louder than words and that sentiment applies to post rock just fine.
I just recently found out about this band, and every single song absolutely blows me away. The atmosphere, followed by moments of intense heaviness .... just really damn impressive.
Really.

Where did you see them? That's sick bro
These guys have stealthily crept into my top five bands. How amazing are they?!
Dunno, first listen. I check back
A great deal easier to listen to their heavier stuff later into their albums. Geneva was a wild album, definately used that to oblivion.
I like to listen to heavy music with soaring vocals and the searing screams of powerful vocalists, and so instrumental music doesn't normally strike me as especially appealing. But...my God...what is this incredible-ness? Fuck me this is awesome...

A while ago was bipolar on a low now bipolar on a high.
Probably, a few days away from being 64, one of postrock's older fans but music like this is ageless

+Oakenbull And what are the other 4?
+MarlenXIX Damn, that is a great question, I personally think Explosions in the Sky is up there. Isis, Jesu
+Oakenbull Isis being numero uno imo and also, don't foget about Toundra.
+Oakenbull No love for year of no Light? ;)
This is the best jammin' and chillin' album I've heard since Kyuss' Welcome to Sky Valley. That's a long time.
Music from Verses reminds me growing child in mothers tummy, just beautiful
This... This is what my soul sounds like from start to finish. Favorite Russian Circles album...
This one and; if this trees could talk- above the earth below the sky. Just perfect
very fantastic "Youngblood"
Verses- redefine the meaning of being here! Piece of my heart!
Just stumbled upon this. Very glad I did. Great music.
imagine walking in an post-apocaliptic world with this music on your headphones
+Carlos Freites
Haha, Carlos, are you serious?! I rather not to, I kinda prefer to world of today.
Sounds awesome. How exactly would you recharge your phone/music player again?
Do it the right way mate ;) No more Wallmart, no more headphones, back to savage times as well, to nature, whatever.
That's what still disappoints me you know, when you come back from a holiday trip. Yeah, that was much pleasant to be quiet in the mountains for a few days, but it's so good to get your ears back on some good music. A return to civilization, home sweet home kinda.
Carlos Freites apocalypse means curtain lifting or revealing of truth. not disaster.
the earth is without a doubt flat. peace from Nor cal
"HEH!" Good comment!
This band is so good...
Best track : YoungBlood , best passage : 34:35
Something about that part reminds me a lot of Amesoeurs (song) - Amesoeurs
Feels good to discover such a good music by chance:). Made me think about the last Jim Warmish movie "The only Lovers Left Alive".
Jedno z mých vůbec nejoblíbenějších alb.
When the bass hit at 7:14 my soul left my body. Jump back.
