I am in my early 30s. I don't have a husband or children. I have been an English teacher but public schools in my country pay minimum wages and private ones offer lame contracts (like 10months and no money for summer break). I have always loved making art but I am too scared to start relying on that as my source of income. You are right, there's this pressure to have lots of money and climb the ladder of your career. I am grateful for my dad that, for my two brothers and for my friends. I really enjoyed this painting, I especially loveits colors. Well done!
I TOTALLY understand that. Making the switch to full-time artist is a big commitment, and I think a lot of artists feel pressured to give it a go. this video came just when i needed it, but for somewhat different reasons i guess. i grew up in a very neglectful household where my parents did not provide for me. im still stuck there now, at 19 years old. the past few weeks ive been making efforts to improve this life, and its been working. but i have to teach my self how to do all the things other people grew up with. my parents didnt keep the house clean, or cook nutritious meals, or take care of anything they owned, or even themselves. to me, home was a dark, dirty, and chaotic place where i could never find peace.
i find myself really longing for a life like the one in the illustration. its strange to see someone learn to appreciate something i idolize. but it does put things into perspective in a way. i can find my way to be content now, despite all the flaws, and work towards a better tommorrow. one of my first lessons ive been learning in valueing the work that goes into creating a better home. and your words in this video solidify that for me.
I'm so, so sorry to hear that you didn't have a very nurturing childhood! I can't even begin to imagine how hard that must have been (and how hard that must still be today.) My heart absolutely breaks for you!

You obviously already know a lot about my life, so for me it can be harder to just slow down and see the good in the simple things because I feel like I’m always waiting for the next bad thing to happen 🤣 but this year especially I’m trying to practice living at a slower pace and being more grateful for the things I have in the moment. For me this looks like turning doing dishes into a fun activity by listening to an audio book or tavern music. Being grateful that I’m getting to know my brother better, and slowly learning that not everyone has an ulterior motive and that they can just be genuinely nice people who care about me, etc.
