- Renowned marine life artist Wyland changed the way people think about our environment when he started painting life-size whales on the sides of buildings in the 1980s. Wyland always thought big. And he never stopped.
Today, the Wyland name has become synonymous with the new generation of awareness about environmental conservation. Through his unique marine life paintings, sculptures, and photography, Wyland has inspired a generation about the importance of marine life conservation. His life - like his art - can find him anywhere around the world, at any time, from the Antarctic ice shelf on a photo expedition to document climate change to a grassroots journey down the Mississippi River on a mission of conservation. Wyland, you inspire me.
Thanks Joe! Ive been looking for an interview of Wyland like this for a decade! He is my mentor from afar! He literally spoke about everything I believe in. Awesome interview. There is absolutely no reason artists should starve.
I first saw Wyland when PBS ran a show featuring him. It did not last very long for some reason. His art is fantastic an you can tell he has a passion for what he does and the theme. I wish PBS would again do a show with him painting.
I love the fact that Wayland's first grade teacher encouraged him to keep drawing, and now he encourages other kids
Vickie Schliecker Awesome, thanks Vickie!
You bet, I hadn't painted for six yrs, I'm 58 yrs. Old, I started watching wyland on opb and now I'm painting again, thanks Wyland you make painting fun
Vickie Schliecker That's fantastic! Good for you :-)
15 years later, I have followed Wyland and his work, for what I can call, almost a lifetime. What an inspiration. I have gone out of my way to see his galleries, in any opportunity I have, in every place I visit. Just recently, I visited his gallery in Vegas. I walk around looking at all things he creates, understanding the thought and love put into every piece. If I had more money to spend, I would love to support and purchase every piece I see. I fell in love with about 5 sculptures in just this one gallery, I WISH I could add to my own collection. He's a true work of talent God spent a little more time on, and I value and adore everything he does. Thank you Wyland for sharing your skill and artwork with the world so we can all enjoy it, too!
+Theresa Hertling That's awesome! :-)
Terrific interview and excellent content.
I love this man. Great talent comes from the "mitten state". What an honest down home interview. Yeah, "get off the computer and go outside". "Be nice and give back" Since I started painting the world opened up to me. Passion is the driving force. There is a reason God covered 3/4 of the world with ocean and we need to take notice. Thank you for this inspiring interview.
He is amazing artist
Great interview :)
