2009 Subaru Outback rear spring and strut replacement

Quick run down of how to quickly and easily replace the rear spring and strut assembly on a 2009 Subaru Outback

I’ve always wondered why Subaru calls them struts when they’re really coil springs over shock absorbers. It’s not one of the structural links in the suspension, it’s purely for ride height(spring) and suspension dampening(shock absorber). If it were a strut, removing it from the vehicle would render it inoperable. Removing a shock absorber just results in a bouncy ride or in the case of a coil over, riding on bump stops. Alignment issues in that case are done with adjustable links in a double wishbone or multi link suspension, you just have no dampening or shock absorption
