    Very nicely explained. But The title is misleading. When you said, "How do Version Control System Really Work", I thought you are going to explain the underlying concepts and principals of how they work. You could have titled it as What is Version control system and its types. :-(

      Git is created by Linus Tovalds (and now it is owned by the community).
      GitHub (one of the most popular Git servers) is now owned by M$.
      You can host your own git server (like gitlab.com or gitea.io).
      If you have your own git server, you own it. Not M$.
      I'm running gitea. Lightweight and fast. Gitlab has more features, but it is heavier.
