As the earliest subway line ever built and opened in China, Beijing Subway Line 1 (北京地铁1号线) distributes from the west to the east along Chang'an Avenue. It opened up its first section, from Beijing Railway Station (北京站) to Gong'Zhu'Fen (公主坟), originally named Li'Xin (立新), in 1969. Then in 1987, the section from Beijing Railway Station to Chang'Chun Avenue (长椿街) was then given to Line 2.
In 1992, the line extended eastwards to Xi'Dan (西单), and in 1999, the eastern part, also called the "Fu-Ba Line (复八线)" opened from Tian'An'Men (天安门西) West to Sihui East (四惠东). The two parts finally cut through in 2000, forming the Line 1 we see today.
In 2021, this line will connect with its good friend, the "Batong Line (八通线)", and goes all the way to Tongzhou District (通州区), eventually arriving at the Universal Studio Theme Park.
As one of the busiest line of the entire city, this line connects up many important areas of Beijing City horrizontally, including the 2022 Winter Olympics Stadiums, Beijing Capital Museum and the Military Museum, Tian'An'Men Square, Wang'Fu'Jing, Silk Street, and the International Trade Center (CBD) area.
With a daily ridership over 1,200,000, the line is equipped with 70 6-car trains. Train number 1 to 31 of the current fleet, Model DKZ4, were manufactured by CRRC Changchun Vehicles and Beijing Subway Rolling Stock in 1998; train number 32 to 70, model SFM04, were manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang and Beijing subway Rolling Stock in 2006. Their designed speed are 50mph (80kmph), but their actual maximum speed is 62.5mph (100kmph). All of these trains are capable of auto driving mode, and are equipped with CBTC signals.
