- Bok flank Siya Kolisi marries his girlfriend in Stellenbosch. The couple met in Stellenbosch four years ago and returned to wine country for their wedding. Amongst the groomsmen were best man Nick Holton, childhood friend Tanqa Ncwana and Siya’s rugby team-mates. Rachel is a marketing executive and now full time mother to their son Nick and Siya’s adopted siblings. Siya’s dedication to rugby took him out of Zwide township into a life in first class sport and it brought his bride into his life. Most of the 200 guests stayed for the weekend, sharing stories. It’s well known that Rachel was at first unsure about Siya. They first became friends, he then confessed his feelings and it wasn’t long until she admitted the same. Rachel’s been there for everything from Siya’s initiation to when he played in the World Cup. Watching them dance, his father has witnessed how far his son has come since the time when even a meal every day was by no means guaranteed. Siya’s success has been life changing. Between family life and career, Siya’s great passion is transforming rugby - putting meals on the plates of young players, building facilities, giving others a chance to play their way into a good life.

I came across this after seeing the amazing World Cup win, and am choked with pride in seeing how open South Africa has become since I left for England in 1995. Just sad that Madiba couldn't have lived to have seen this legacy of his dream in bringing a rainbow nation together. For this beautiful couple to become the face of South Africa amidst the euphoria of us taking a third World Cup trophy is a very special thing. And for them to have given a forever home to those lovely two kids is equally special. I truly hope that this helps in a big way to focus the nation on fixing its problems together.

If things are going to change in SA then people there need to cling to every bit of hope they can find, and applaud those who are at least trying, and who represent that hope and change. I have seen thousands of South Africans of all colours celebrating the World Cup win and all echoing what I was saying. Maybe it's just your outlook and attitude that is the problem...
