    Thanks for sharing this recipe. In old time people in Hong Kong also made the same donuts but a bit thicker. Recent 20 years, no one made it anymore.

      @@AimeesCooking Probably a lot of different food from different countries have been introduced in Hong Kong. On the of that, properties prices in hong kong have been increased dramatically.
      This donut is labor intensive and cannot ask for much selling price when the commercial rents have been increasing over those years.

    Love this recipe! I’ve been making this. First time not all was hallow. This morning’s batch was a total failed. But the afternoon and night batch was a success! What I did wrong was I used a small pot and the oil temp was too low. I think I’ve mastered this recipe. I was wondering if I wanted to make two batches can I just double the recipe? Thank you so much for all your recipes! I love them!

    The abbreviation of Gram is G or Gm
    If your measurement in Gr- grain,
    It’s supper small if converting to gm.
    How many tsp of yeast ? Thank you

      Would not recommend more than one at a time. It requires constant flipping and movement to help get an even brown.

      You can use a wooden spoon and mix it until it’s not too sticky then go in with your hands.

    Hi Aimee, I follow the recipe but the dough is very wet, it does not wrap entirely around the whip. It sticks to my hands, everything that touches it. Wonder what I did wrong?

    Hiii... I've tried many other recipes. My problem is that when I go to fry it.. it's still remains flat 🤧 and not hollow. I'm thinking where am I going wrong? Tried 2 different yeasts.. letting the dough rest over night.. Some doesn't rise.. tried about 3 different types of flowers? I need help lol 😫

    I tried to make like what you show. My took longer to rise and went fried them they all have crack, they tasted good , but only thing I thing they need is maybe a tsp of vanilla.thanks I will try again with vanilla, let you know how they , i hope the will not have any crack on one side.

    Thank you so much for the receipt, I bought a bag of these from the local Asian market before and I’m obsessed!! But the store never had it again grrr... I will definitely try this!!!!

    How much sugar did you use in the water and yeast mixture? Did you just take a spoonful from the 130gm listed?

    Should I omit the water if I’m using instant yeast?

      The water is part of the liquid measurement for the recipe. I would recommend to proof the instant yeast anyways (though I know it’s not needed) so that it will help rise faster and to know for sure if it’s still active.

    Yum! I love eating those things...not to sweet and delicious. I wonder why no one every makes them pandan or with other flavors? Or since they look like pita bread after they are fried, stuff them with some kind of bean paste like mung bean with coconuts flakes and then sprinkle on that heavenly combo of ground peanuts, sesame seeds, salt, sugar...you know what I mean. I know the original is amazing, but surely some Vietnamese culinary genius has experimented? :)

    Please clarify the amount of water required . The above recipe shows 220 ml which equals 220 gr. In the answer to one of the comments below you mentioned that the total water amount needed is 130 gr. Thank you very much
