He had size and amazing skills, a shooting guard of 7.11, he hadn't the right mindset for becoming a dominant player.

The talent was there, he could shoot, finish, he could block and had an explosive first step. But the mindset didn´t help.
quando aveva voglia di giocare (10 volte in un anno) non ce n’era per nessuno, peccato non gli andasse di difendere...per caratteristiche era l’erede naturale di dirk nowitzki
una delle prime scelte più scarse e più pippe mai viste.. e comunque si sa che nella regular season NBA (soprattutto negli anni in cui ha giocato lui, dove non c'era certo il clima "da coltello fra i denti" come nella NBA anni 90) anche uno scarsone come bargnani poteva fare una decina di partite decenti, come succedeva anche a Scalabrine. Gli riconosco solo il merito di aver intascato negli anni un bel gruzzolo che gli ha permesso essere a posto fino alla pensione, per il resto uno così meglio perderlo che trovarlo (la Nazionale italiana ne sa qualcosa).

@@patrickbateman80quindi è riuscito a fare per due anni più di venti punti di media a partita giocandone bene solo una decina? chissà cosa succedeva se ne avesse giocate bene anche solo la metà. a parte gli scherzi, paragonare Scalabrine a bargani significa ammettere di non capire niente di basket. idem disconoscere le sue prestazioni in nazionale.

Ha giocato (ed è stato uno dei protagonisti in negativo) in una delle più perdenti e deludenti nazionali di sempre nella storia del basket italiano, tant'è che all'inizio sembrava che dovessero spaccare il mondo coi "tre NBA" in squadra e poi per anni han rimediato solo magre figure non qualificandosi nemmeno per le olimpiadi.. Mi sa che quello che ne sa poco è un altro èh danielino! Vai a parlare bene di bargnani a NY poi vediamo cosa ti rispondono i newyorkesi..

Mai sostenuto che Bargani sia un campione. Ma tu hai scritto delle idiozie gigantesche. Bargnani faceva 10 partite buone all'anno? forse gli ultimi anni di Nba, dopo essere stato peraltro falcidiato dagli infortuni. Bargnani ha fatto almeno 2 anni ad altissimi livelli, tra i primi 15 realizzatori nella lega. Scalabrine con lui non c'entra niente, poco da aggiungere. La nazionale andava male per colpa di Bargnani? Senza di lui avrebbero fatto meglio? a parte che non esiste la riprova, io ricordo che, quando ha giocato, Bargnani ha sempre fatto il suo, altri hanno fatto ben peggio di lui. Su quello che pensano i fan dei Knicks me ne frega 0
first problem the timing: in the post curry era a long with his shot and his vision, the wider field, would have been much more successful.
second problem expectations: drafted as 1 overall pick when European basketball was light years away from the NBA, he didn't stand up to expectations and criticisms. had he been taken on as a project instead of a franchise savior he would have had time to blossom.
third problem: the interpretation of his role. given his height he has always been considered a center, but if his height was enough in Europe to be dominant under the basket, there were other animals in the NBA. they should have used him as a 3 or 4 exploiting the height mismatch and his shooting ability, aiming most of the training sessions to refine the defensive phase
You hit the nail on the head. I absolutely agree on everything. I would add mindset: he never tried too hard to work on his weaknesses, and he had an attitude towards the press (not disrespectful, but you could tell he didn't care) that made him a lot of enemies that created this false narrative of "bust".
I know get got hate in Toronto for lack of defense and rebounding (actually that was really bad). People forget management was trying to go "Euro" which overall back then was a softer style. They put Bargs and center cuz he 7 feet tall. He ain't no center. Raps were a soft team overall and with Bosh gone they put even more pressure on him. So blame goes to all.

The biggest problem with Bargnani, at least for what I think, is that he didn't like the game. He played because he was good, not because he liked it. He was convinced and kinda forced to try it by his family (which had basketball players of lower level) to start playing, and he kept playing more because of the results than a real passion. Then when you are paid millions is another story.

Bargnani couldn’t handle the pressure, he hated playing in nba and didn’t even want to train anymore...first pick who managed to play 10 years in nba (5 high level years) with just his raw talent , no training

@@AlexandreG Actually Bargnani was that good but he didn't have the right mental approach and he was often too lazy on the court but in terms of skill he could have been a Dirk Nowitzki type of player
@@AlexandreG not that good? never seen a 7 footer with that first pass, not to mention the shooting, the NBA just wasn't for him, particularly being under pressure as a 1st pick. He was a quiet guy who needed quiet
