- Coke Studio Pakistan surprised me once again. The singers were pretty much showing off in this act. I've seen new instruments in this one and I'm still wondering how they are called. On the downside I wasn't a huge fan of the electronic sounds in this and I'm not sure why they decided to take an E-drumset and so many synths. Still it was a journey and I will keep the highlights of this track in my mind.

Let me give you some information, All sorts of genre have been sung in the last 13 seasons of Coke Studio, even the traditional and unconventional style of drums in some of the songs has been performed very well. But Season 14 was an experimental season in which electronic music was used more. Since we've seen all the previous seasons, we love this new style of music.
The string instrument being played with a bow was Sarangi. Lyrics are in Urdu and English and Urdu poetry is never completely straight forward. It requires understanding of context and reading between the lines a lot but people who grow up with the language get it pretty quickly. The song is about emotions and how one ends up at the some place over and over and may be that place is sad but it is motivational in the sense that it states don't be afraid and move forward and cut through it all.
"Black eye blue smile" - he's alluding to being bruised, like they say "beaten black and blue."
The first instrument you asked about is called Sarangi and the guitar-like one is called Sitar.
The Urdu lyrics aren't actually that cryptic. Its just that in Urdu its easy to convey emotional depth using terse expressions and imagery which are problematic to translate due to differing cultural contexts. Literal translations would often make no sense at all, so translators try to intepret them in whatever ways they can. The song description says "an ode to sensitivity"...maybe that can help put it all in context.

This song is about feeling weak and beaten down by circumstances in life but then pulling yourself back up and motovating yourself again and again

Don't go for the literal translation, Urdu has more literary depth as it is a mixture of all eastern languages also having western languages like English & Latin, Urdu makes it more feelable & delicate, only if one can understand context, Urdu Poetry beats most in World. It's so beautiful (although it's not my first language).
