- 115 Pro XS Opti turning a 24p Trophy Plus prop on my 17 foot X-16 bass boat.
Half a tank of fuel and a full livewell hitting 90kph on the GPS running up the Clarence River. All captured with a GoPro Hero 3.
its a great little boat to drive. surprisingly very good in rough water and when trimmed up has plenty of speed for a 17 footer. There is one of it bigger brothers here in Australia with a 200 SHO Yamaha. It's a ballistic missile at 88mph.
Larry sounds like the dealer put a lemon on the back of your new boat.
Mine has been nothing but fantastic but in saying that it is not uncommon to hear regardless of brand people having that one off motor that has nothing but trouble. Hope you get it all sorted so you can enjoy the water.
I purchased one of these on a new boat- 2013, 115PROXS- nothing but trouble- bad coils four replacements, broken air compressor pulley/idler, current issue is warning signal beeps and reduction in RPM for no apparent reason- good oil / good gas. only 67 hours run time about 10 of that has been at the dealer in a shop tank- Merc's response so far- They hope I'm enjoying my new MERCURY engine.....
Sounds like an operator problem. These motors are bulletproof.
Was it a brand new motor?I got a freind sweats by optimax says the problems were from not enough fuel flow!

I've had plenty of head to heads against 115 HO Etec's on Skeeter SX170.
I have rounded them up every time with ease.
I'm only 3-5km slower than a Skeeter ZX190 with a 150hp motor with my setup.
+duffyhunter probably becauce you have a 24 p propeller !
+arotom my boat is half the weight of a ZX 190 why I can turn a 24p prop.
The best it's done so far is 97kph with all my fishing gear and 1/2 a tank of fuel.
Just purchased this motor and currently running a Trophy Plus 4 blade 13-3/4" Diameter 21 pitch and it runs 51mph at 5700 rpm. My boat is a 16ft. Sprint bass boat, weight is 990lbs. What diameter prop and blade count was in this video?
Nicky Boudreaux Mate it was the Trophy Plus 4 blade with a diameter of 13 3-4inches at 24p.
The Rufnek Raker X-16 is a very light bass boat which is why I can get away with a 24p and get the speeds I do.
Since that video I now have the 115 ProXS Fourstroke. A much better motor again with better hole shot, midrange and fuel economy and the same top end as the Opti, plus no more buying oil except for services.
It’s spinning a 23p trophy plus at 6100rpm.
@@duffyhunter i Appreciate your response. I also have a manual jack plate with 5.5 inch setback. I think I will attempt to come up a little more with the motor to see if that makes a difference. Currently where its set I can take a pretty tight turn Trimmed up and not cavitate. Being its turning 5700-5800 rpm with the 4 blade 21 pitch....Im electing to not try a 24 pitch as that will drop my rpms drastically. I'll keep you posted on my experience with it, Thanks again!!
Motor is a 2012 model. The gopro cases make the motors sound different. I can promise you it goes harder than a fourstroke.

Brian Fagley Ive just upgraded to the new 115 Pro XS Four-stroke. it has the same top end as the Optimax but it's holeshot and torque leaves it for dead. Best part is no more oil to buy when refueling.
Yes same here what prop are u running on your new motor if you don't mind me asking bc I have just a aluminum black Max and it's topping out at 40mph with 2 guys and gear and full tank of gas 22 gallons need more speed
Brian Fagley mate I'm running a 23p Trophy Plus. At 6100 I get 59mph. I did try the 21p trophy plus but at 6300rpm it was 3mph slower but the hole shot was crazy good.
Is yours standard gear case or command thrust

jsjrspivey By myself it would hit 5700rpm and 97kph. Pitch will depend on how heavy your boat is as mine is quite light which was why I could get away with running a 24p Trophy Plus.

How many mph will it hit?Have any problems?We own this same motor except a 2014 and no problems so far about 7 hours on it practically brand new.No problems for us what so ever
It has done 60.6mph but I have yet to run it without all my gear in it. I've encountered no problems with mine to date. On the prop I run, Trophy Plus 24p, I have all the plugs out to help me with hole shot as my hull sits very low at the stern and is not a quick planning hull.
Wow does it cavitate real bad?Our boat moves side to side when you trim it down or trim it up
But I haven't tried slowing down then trimming it down

We did our run with full gas tank and gear so our speed would be better without gear and stuff.How big is the fuel tank on that boat?

I'm sorry but I find hydro foils to be redundant on motors above a hundred horsepower, newer boats are optimized for the horsepower at hand. If you thinks it helps then fine. You're going to get the best holeshot in my opinion with the motor trimmed all the way down and a WOT starting off. But that's me. I don't know what others think, but from my experience it's what I feel.
Mathew Hastings Hi Mathew. If I could get away with not needing a foil I would. I wish I had the luxury of the modern day hulls that get up on the plane with ease. My boat is a 2004 South African X-16 hull made by Ruffnek. It is only one of four in existence in Australia so there is not a lot known globally about there performance characteristics. I found that using a foil improved my hole shot as the nature of my hull is bum heavy and at rest it sits with its nose in the air so I have to climb over a wall of water before it reaches planning speed. It's even worse with a full live well as it is running on this clip. I always take off at WOT and trimmed in to reach my planning speeds ASAP. I have all the vent plugs out to help the prop increase in RPM on take off. I could down size my prop but it would way over rev the engine as it sits sweat at 5700 rpm WOT.
I never been to Austrialia nor have I've seen the particular boat that you have, if it helps you that's fine, I myself have an 89 model boat and I had one on my motor, but I didn't notice really any diffrence in either the hole shot, so I took it off, it all comes down to personal preference.
What is fuel economy like compare to the normal optimax?
I would imagine not a great deal different from the Pro XS.
I own the four stroke 115 ProXS now and it’s way better on fuel, hole shot with the same top end as my old Opti Pro XS.
ProXS Optimax was 1.4km to the litre @ WOT.
ProXS Four stroke is 2.0km to the litre @ WOT.

Honestly mate I had not measured it when I had this motor. I adjusted the engine height according to water pressure and taco readings.
Testing props the 24p trophy was on the money for my boat as it’s pretty lightweight.
I’m thinking that your at max height from the best I can see, Do you think that the trophy 4 blade is what gave the boat that ideal bow lift? Did u ever try a laser?
My boat sits very low at the rear so I needed a prop that produces stern lift which the trophy did well. The Laser 2 didn’t hole shot as good and was for my boat a just a bit slower.
duffyhunter trophy props are hard to find, just put on th jackplate so I guess if I don’t get the right results I’ll start looking for a trophy. I currently have a laser II 22p/24p/26p . Do u still have the boat?
New Generation I do mate. My current motor on it now is the 115 ProXS four stroke. It’s a much better engine all round over my old Optimax. Same top end speed but way better holes hot and fuel economy. Running a 23p Trophy Plus on it with max rpm of 6150.
Tried a Laser2 and it was 10kmph slower. Tried a 21p Trophy and it was 5km slower at top end but the hole shot was awesome. The 23p was spot on.

Try less than 3/4 Gallon and then your in the ball park.
