100% agree with you Kale! It is the best place for surfing progression, i have caught more waves in 1 year then in 10 years. Trying to to goto the beach from Melbourne when you get time, getting the right conditions then having the confidence to mix it with people that are good surfers becomes a self perpetuating way to go backwards in surfing, URBNSURF is exactly the opposite and has helped my surfing and enjoyment of it so much and gives me confidence to go into the ocean. Love your videos!

This is so rad to see people put development into making waves. Yet still the beauty of the natural wave is something to behold.

    Loved the video!
I've surfed The Wave in Bristol (UK) multiple times now and you are *so* right about the opportunity for surfers to progress.
They have a setting they call the Waikiki wave that's designed to "bounce" off the wall, then, instead of running straight to the beach, goes diagonally across towards the bottom of the pier section. This gives a lovely, rolling, easy to catch unbroken wave which is perfect for getting used to popping up and starting to put turns together.
I was there a few days ago and it was the best surfing session I've ever had, because, whilst going to Croyde in North Devon is lovely, you never know what the next wave is going to be like, but in the pool, you can be certain that it will be just like the last one, so you don't have to worry about where the peak will be or if it will close out on you.
That leaves you free to concentrate on getting up and looking through the turns and I could really feel how my surfing had progressed!
PS I've also learned lots of great stuff from your videos too, keep up the great work :-)

You could go talk to your local shaper.
Rounded square is for all round surfing
Round tail is for island waves
Rounded pin is for big waves
Square tails like to pop out of the water on a top turn
Swallow/fish tail holds the board onto the wave
      Everything else is just experimental.

Of the couple of rounds trips I did do to Torquay, one took 3.5hrs return with the Westgate roadworks and cost me $200odd for going 10 over.

This is a very well done video, commentary, production, editing. Thank you! Wave Pools? Whew, deep (shallow?) subject, pros and cons, pricey and less soulful, but looks like it advances your surfing at an accelerated pace, not waiting on wind and swell, so............we're evolving. Old SoCal guy here, so I'm biased. Thanks again, straight up assessment from your crew.

As an old snowboarder who was able to ride just about anything I say Surfing is much harder to learn and become proficient. I would love to be able to practice surfing here. I think you could progress so much quicker! Id teach surfers to snowboard and they were pretty good after a week! Unfortunately going from a snowboard to a surfboard took me several days to just catch and ride a wave consistently . It took me a month of living the beach and surfing every day to just become decent, make turns, etc.

    • @taboovsknowledge1603

Im designing a wave trainer. It is just for teaching the basic movement of pumping down the wave. The basic movement that is hard to learn in the wild. The learner will get on the trainer, get the motion down with help by a pro, then go out surfing with a teacher that gets them into the wall of the wave so the learner now just replicates the motion.
I suspect a athletic person can learn to surf in one day!

Hey mate, would you say take a higher volume PU for buoyancy? Ive got an advanced turns booked next week on my forehand (bobby quad), and Advanced on my backhand, and for this session I was thinking either my Pyzel Ghost or slightly higher volume BlackBox 3 Swallow. I did just get a JS Xero with more volume than both of those but unsure what to take. I also paid for advanced board hire aswell. Old boy been surfing for a long time but don't want waste my sessions surfing the wrong equipment given the price 😊. Im quite a bigger framed bloke aswell. Any tips on a board to grab from the urban surf racks for my backside Advanced sesh? I promise I wont hold a grudge if it doesn't work out haha Just curious if a Rnd pintail sits any different in the face in fresh water? Much love from South Oz Surfer 🤙(or should I just grab some suitable shapes in Epoxy from their racks for more float)?
