  • Welcome back to Le train Rouge - Rivesaltes to Axat. In Part 2 “Maury to Lapradelle” our train passes through the Languedoc wine making region of Southern France. If you are planning to visit the area or maybe you are just curious, this article is well worth reading - anglophone-direct.com/train-d...
    We continue our gentle climb following the Agly and Maury rivers. Vineyards cover the valley floor and lower slopes of the Pyrenees on the Southern side and the lower slopes of the Massif Central on the Northern side. The neatly laid out vines are replaced by tall conifers as we get closer to Lapradelle.
    In 1878 “La Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi et du Canal latéral à la Garonne” began building a railway line in the Eastern Pyrénées to connect Carcassonne with Perpignan. The route used by today’s “Le Train Rouge” was complete in 1904. As with many lines built in lightly populated areas, it fell victim to improved road transport, eventually falling into disuse in the late 1980’s. In 1992 three railway enthusiasts formed an association to resurrect a train service along the route, by 2001 they had succeeded raising sufficient funds, volunteers and rolling stock to run a train service. TPCF - Train du Pays Cathare et du Fenouillèdes (Fenouillèdes is the Catalan name for this region). The friendly staff and volunteers would love to welcome you on one of their trains, but if you can't make it please sit back and enjoy a virtual ride through the beautiful French/Catalonian Countryside.

      @@sequoiasemperviren3163 Hi, thank you for your kind comment, our forefathers created some wonderful civil engineering, especially the dressed stonework found on bridges, viaducts, retaining walls and tunnel entrances, much of which is only visible from the driving cab. Concrete used today can look pretty amazing, but there is something special about hand carved stone, it's a reflection of the pride people took in their chosen craft. I'll be publishing Part 3 shortly in which the art of the stone masons who created the viaducts and tunnel entrances is more akin to an important mainline than a country bye-way.

    Every time I see trains in France I love it, especially the heritage stuff of course. Makes me want to go there to live because of the country side even in small towns. I wish I knew French model railroaders so I could see how they do things for my own layout.

      France has a varied and interesting rail scene, ranging from speeding TGV's to old trains running on lightly used branch lines. In Part 3, available at the end of this month we finish in Axat, a paradise for those looking for inspiration to model a typical small town French station in an unspoiled, pretty mountain village. The French are almost as keen on model railroading as are Americans and the British. The best way to meet French model railroaders is to visit one of their model railway exhibitions or subscribe to a French Model Railroad magazine. Please click on this link - 24trains.tv/ and take advantage of their free trial. There is a good chance you'll find a lot of useful information to help you with your model railraod.

      Hello Hans, I've just finished cylindrical grinding the last job I have to get done before leaving for Germany. I have also just completed another plastic injection mould tool and the sample mouldings are in front of me, the tool ran like a dream and the component fitted to the other parts perfectly, it a good feeling when everything comes together well. I also polished some water marks out of another mould tool because it was not spayed properly with a protective spray the last time it was used. Working until gone midnight most days over what should have been my Christmas break has left me in need of a holiday. Because of industrial action on the railways here in the UK, I'm leaving for London a day earlier than planned to stay in an hotel near St Pancras station to make sure I don't miss my Eurostar train. I'm looking forward to filming in East Germany. It's nice to know the package is on it's way. Industrial action in a number of industries in the UK is making life difficult at the moment, especially for Karen who catches the train to take meals to her 96 year old Mum and make sure she is OK, last week trains only ran on one day last week from our local station. I haven't managed to get the third part in this video series finished, so I won't be able to post it until the end of the month. Cheers 🍺🥂 from Tim and Karen.

This railway has been saved by a small group of dedicated volunteers and they have certainly got their work cut out. • @equilat
      @equilat Před rokem

      The situation is very complicated for them. The line has only been used for freight since decades but it almost disappeared completely in the la 1990s/early 2000s. The only freight trains using it are only running on the first kilometers of the line.
      The volunteers are maintaining themselves a section of it, while SNCF (French national railway company) the remaining. But they are more and more reluctant to do it because they are virtually investing money on several kilometers of line which don't see any single commercial train anymore...
