Thanks for this video, definitely made me think twice about the multiple of the blazer I am considering buying.. I haven’t worn the original yet 🙈 Great wisdom! Yes please to advice re selling. I usually use eBay. Have had terrible experience with Vestiere as the commission is 30% so makes it hardly worth it. Based in the uk, fashionphile or the real real is also not worth it for me due to import duties
Makeup was what I wasted so much money on. When you watch or follow these influencers and they are so good at doing makeup and you go out and buy everything they love or use and you yourself is not good at doing makeup that’s money down the drain. Lesson learned for sure!! All my makeup I own now fit in my Coach makeup bag and I will only rebuy things that I love and work for me. Tfs!! FOMO is the worst 😆
I tossed out probably 90% of my makeup last year and I don’t miss any of it. I never understood why makeup influencers keep like closets full of makeup and I never wanted that for myself but at the same time it definitely did create FOMO. Now I spend my money on good skincare instead because I can use it up and it’s actually beneficial.
Everyone knows this but everyone forget about it when we see/find items haha it is so good to influencers to keep reminding followers about it. Thx Carol 😊
For me, it’s buying an item with a different colour way or style just because it’s on sale. But I end up regretting and still wanting the classic version of the item. Then I end up buying more than I had intended 😂 not sure if this makes sense
Wow this is really informative. I agree with you on the luxury beauty and RTW. I just can't justify spending so much money on them but it's funny when I think luxury handbags are worth it. It's really just up to the individual and what they like more. It's also easy to get sucked into the pretty packaging of these designer beauty products (I'm definitely guilty as well). These days it's hard to figure out if you really love an item or you're just being influenced by social media. It's important to take a step back and think it through.
I completely agree. I almost got sucked into buying those Christmas gift sets from Chanel beauty because I saw it all over social media and it seemed like everyone was turning the pouch from the gift set into a camera bag.
It’s so easy to get sucked into buying items because of the brand and honestly, there are times where I really consider buying pieces because of it. 😣 But 100% agree that just cause it’s designer, doesn’t mean it’s good quality! I worked as a butler briefly for the top hotel/casino in Melbourne and I remember organizing and displaying the wardrobe for one of the VIP clients. Most of her items were designer but I remember she had a tshirt from a fashion house (can’t recall which) that was in such poor quality! The material was exactly like something I would expect from H&M. 😩 Have you thought about displaying your Hermes scarves as decor since you don’t use them? I think they would look nice in frames to decorate your bedroom or living room! At least you can admire it every time you see the scarves for the artwork. 😍 And yes to making a video on selling luxe items please! I still have to make time to set up a listing to sell a pair of new Valentino’s that don’t fit and I’m just too paranoid about trying to sell them myself since I hear about so many scams. 😭
I know exactly what you mean about worrying about being scammed. I’ve read so many horror stories and I can’t believe how elaborate some of these scams are. As for hanging the scarves, I’ve thought about it but I’m not sure where I would put them because my decor is pretty neutral.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I think if you have a neutral room, a pop of colour will definitely draw one's attention! But understandable if you want to keep the colours in the room consistent!
For that very reason, that’s why I’m not into shoptager. I used Rakuten and I could not be happier with that. I get good deals with great cashback especially during the holiday.
So many great points. Impulse buying slg’s is my foe! But I have gotten much better as I’ve realized resisting the temptation gets me a bigger better reward. TFS! 😘😘😘
My mistake is wanting a bigger ticket item, being halfway in regards to saving, and then seeing something that equals what I saved and loving it but now starting from scratch for that more expensive item!
Hi Carol, I love this video. I definitely can relate to a few of these tips. A few years ago, I bought some clothing items from a European website. I did my homework and looked at the size chart and measured myself and my daughter. Sadly, most of the items were way too small. They missed up their sizing big time. When I tried to return them, I realized that to post it back will cost almost as much as the items combined. I ended up giving them to my mom and sister to look for someone who can wear them. The other mistake was not thinking through some purchases to see if they suit my lifestyle. When I first bought my very first luxury item ever (a velvet Chanel bag), I was so excited to buy it. Add to that the fact that at the luxury department store the SA’s gathered to look at us but that bag, and I felt like a celebrity. Now if I could go back I would tell myself to buy something made of leather and a color that is not season specific. I don’t want a big luxury collection of anything, so this way I will get a lot more use out of my items. While I still love my first bag, now I think everything thoroughly enough to make sure it suits me, and would work for multiple occasions and seasons.
Ahh yes it’s hard to get enough use out of a velvet bag. I also thought about getting one before but decided against it. I’m sure your bag is gorgeous though! And shipping is so expensive, especially to ship internationally. I couldn’t believe how much I had to pay to ship something that barely weighed anything.
Thank you Carol for sharing your tips with us! Definitely very insightful/ helpful for me because I'm someone who buys an item in a different style or luxury brand just because it's a cheaper alternative but end up still wanting the original style that I wanted from the beginning. So hopefully going forward, I'll just not be tempted and save enough for the bags that I really really want! :D & definitely to think through if the style suits me etc before plunging in cause.. I do have a few items that I bought on a whim. :'(
Great video. And I agree, just the other day i wanted a Fendi bag in a medium size. I saw the mini version and tried to talk myself into getting that because it’s cheaper. I’m glad I finally stopped doing that because what happens is you end wishing you just waited and got what you wanted in the first place
Yes absolutely! I had to do a similar thing yesterday except weirdly enough I was tempted to buy a more expensive bag 😂 I saw this really pretty red My Lady Dior and was thinking of getting it but had to remind myself that it’s too similar in size to my medium one and what I really want is the mini.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC yes! It’s so crazy how fast we get distracted. You bring up another point, evaluating what’s already in your collection. I only have 1 black dressy bag and that’s my chanel classic. I know if I add let’s say a similar black style then they start competing against each other. So I remind myself of that a lot now to really think of what I already have.
Oh no that’s upsetting. Luckily I haven’t run into that situation yet. If you truly want it back, I would suggest getting it before the next price increase. But if you’re still unsure maybe remind yourself why you sold it in the first place?
I have this bad habit of buying luxury when I’m sick and I always regret my purchases! To be expected when my head is not clear 😆. Please do share your experience on selling your items, I have consigned a few items in the past but have always found the commission fee very steep.
My mom is the same with jewelry < bag haha! For me it would be those tempting discount e-mails.. however I unsubscribed from a lot so I wouldn’t be tempted anymore😄
It definitely is! I just made my first “impulse” purchase in a long time. This is what happens when I’m scrolling the LV website at 7am and it just happens to be available 😅
Yes yes, for me because I live in Asia, I have to remember not to buy things more than $400 or else, I have to take into account of my country's customs taxes as the total price to my purchase and also, the shipping costs to ship the item from US to Asia is super super expensive that it eats up all the discount earned so definitely not worth it, unless it's free international shipping. Lastly, don't buy extra just to make to the amount that offers free shipping. Sometimes it means spending more money than necessary and it's simply not worth it. 🤯😅🙅♀️❎🙅♂️ Just walk away and find alternatives. Forcing it thru is simply spending more money and not saving money 💵
It’s crazy how much shipping and customs can end up costing. And you are so right about buying stuff just to qualify for free shipping - that’s how retailers get people to buy more and it works.
Omgosh that happened to me yesterday...I just bought something because I saw it on Instagram and it was too cute! I think it’s one of those cases where I’m glad I discovered it though...we’ll have to see if that’s really the case.
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC I feel you, I’m going in to see a picotin 18 later today... definitely influenced lol 🤭🤭 but it’s at least a “rarer” black w gold hardware!

So true...blinded by how these companies market the items for sure.

I get what you mean! It’s so tempting when it’s on sale. I’ve stopped scrolling through the sale sections for that reason.

So true! Shoes are the equivalent for me. It’s much easier to justify when it’s a few hundred dollars vs a few thousand.

I always have to stop myself from buying trendy pieces that I see influencers have on Instagram 😅
