  • We grew our potatoes in grow bags for the first time this year - in the past we have always planted them in the ground or in raised beds. We are very excited to see how our harvest turns out, and have a couple of our kids helping with the harvest because potatoes are a fun treasure hunt. Also, I share with you how we deal with pest control in our organic garden. So glad to have you join us on our little homestead in Northern California.

      It was! I am sold! It was so much easier to dig too. If I had to hand water it, like I did my in ground potato bed the last few years, I don't think it would have stayed wet enough with the crazy heat, but having drip made a huge difference!

      I am leaving the very little ones and seeing if they volunteer back- it has worked before in my inground potato bed. It is so dry here! We don’t water our field.

    Pour the bags out you will have more potatoes

      I am sure you are right. The bags were really large- 30 gallons - and with back injury and a healing shoulder (and hubby having a healing knee after surgery) there was no way to dump that size. We already replanted more potatoes in the bags, so any lost in there will most likely sprout and produce more. Maybe we will shovel it all out on a tarp next harvest to find more hiding ones. If the bags were smaller, dumping definitely would be a must! Thanks for the tip!!

    You really have squish the spider ? And grasshopper too ?

      I didn’t squish the spider, but yes to the grasshoppers- there has been a plague of them in our area and they have devastated many many gardens and orchards in our area. Thankfully, these types of spiders prey on grasshoppers… I am still scared of spiders though.

    How do you cure them?

    • @scofieldfarm
      @scofieldfarm  Před 2 měsíci

      I lay them out flat on the wire shelves I showed at the end out of direct light for a couple weeks. Then I will put them in a box in the coldest corner of our laundry room (coldest place of the house, not a lot of cool places) til we use them all.

    Where do you get the Grow Bags

    • @scofieldfarm
      @scofieldfarm  Před 2 měsíci

      We got them at a local grow store, but they are available online as well. Ours are 30 gallon bags, which felt like a good size for potatoes.

      @@scofieldfarm thank you so much! Do you mind me asking what brand they are? What is the fabric?

      I don’t know. I just bought whatever they had at the local grow store. Ours are tan- black wouldn’t be good in our climate but other climates that don’t get to 119° I am sure would be fine.
