- I wanted to see just what I could buy in Albania for €10. Obviously, prices will vary a bit depending on where in the country you are so the prices here in Pogradec will not necessarily be the exact same as the prices in Tirana or Durres, but they will be similar.
This may make it seem like it would be very easy to live here, because things are so cheap, but many Albanians have a monthly income of only €150-€200 (or less) meaning that even with the prices that seem cheap to many countries, life can still be very difficult.

I get paid €8 per day which makes €10 a lot of money and this goes for most of Albanias. Our country is pretty expensive to us! Great video by the way. Be careful at Big Market they sell expired food o lot of times.

There was never any way a single currency with a centralised mechanism for inflation control through quantitative easing was going to work for 19 disparate economies.

After Greece adopted the euro in 2001, it was able to borrow at much lower interest rates despite its deteriorating competitiveness and public finances.
In the decade before the crisis, Greece was able to use this cheap funding to finance a deficit which grew to unsustainable levels.
Conditions in the euro area during this period facilitated such lending, despite the build-up of the unsustainable deficit. This meant that Greece could delay difficult structural reforms that had become necessary and may have been unavoidable if cheap funding had not been available during the 2000s.
While government spending and borrowing increased, tax revenues weakened due to poor tax administration.
At the same time, wages rising much faster than productivity growth undermined Greece’s competitiveness, while low productivity and existing and significant structural problems also contributed to the increasing economic difficulties.
As a result, Greece’s economy contracted and unemployment began to climb to alarming levels.
In 2009, the Greek government revealed that previous governments had been misreporting government budget data. Much higher-than-expected deficits eroded investor confidence, causing the yields on Greek sovereign bonds (which correspond to the cost of borrowing money) to rise to unsustainable levels.
The situation worsened to the point where the country was no longer able to refinance its borrowing, and it was forced to ask for help from its European partners and the IMF.

in august i got 138lek per euro probably depends on area and season, did you google the rate or did you actually went to an exchange store? banks have the worst exchange rates keep in mind, exchange stores are usually located next to bus station
banks work on a 7% profit and exchange stores on a 0,8%. number 1 rule for travellers in albania is not exchange currency in banks

The Exchange rate today is around 124.3 ALL for 1 Euro

How much do I need per day at the beach assuming I already have where to stay? I'm planning a 2 weeks visit to the Albanian coast side this summer and don't know what budget to prepair. I'll be rideing my motorcycle ;)

A lot of it depends on which "beach" you are planning on visiting and what you plan on doing while you are there. From Duress, Golem and Kavaje in the north, to Vlore, Sarande and Ksamil in the south. I have been to all of them and would be happy to pass on any advice. My favourite has to be Sarande, if you have the motorcycle you will be able to visit Butrint National Park, Syri i Kaltër (Blue Eye), take a day trip to Corfu....

Overall we just want to sit at the beach, visit some historical sites and museums. No nightlife or other things like that. We don't drink alchool... no fancy restaurants.

Compared to 2016 in Euro's Albania became a bit more expensive in 2018 due to the conversion rate (from 135 to 125 Leks/Euro) while the prices in Leks were more or less the same. A regular Korça beer (0,5L) was around 150 leks everywhere (Vlorë, Sarandë, Shkodër, Korçë, Pogradec, the cities we were in 2016 and 2018), which means that a beer rose from €1,11 to €1,20 in two years time.
Also you can buy 1.5 kg or something of fish called Koran, which you can find only in that lake since you are living in Pogradec. :)

How much is a good salary in Albania? By good I mean enough to own a decent car (7-8 years old tops) and an apartment/house. Also be able to go out weekly and have 1 or 2 holidays per year out of the country.
well i work as a customer technical support and have a salary of 65000-70000 lek for 40 h per week and 2 days off and is considered a good salary but still you can afford only summer vacations of 10 days , some national holidays and new year .rent ,food ,going out on days off ect . for the car you will need an economic one .you can buy a-class 2004 for 1500-2000€ and about the housing you can find a house with rents that vary from 18000-25000 lek per month...once you get fixed and used to the area you will start to learn where to buy cheaper and save something at the end of the month .do not expect paradise in here my friend 😊👍
