      Sadly, we lost another one of our brilliant satirists, John Bird, who used to partner the late John Fortune in some marvellous interview sketches. Taking it in turns, in each, to play interviewer and politician, they equalled Yes Minister in some insisive comedy sketches. John Fortune passed away around the festive season nearly a decade ago. Damn it. We seem to be losing everyone at the moment.

    Love your reactions Connor. You are definitely eligible to be an honorary Brit imo. RIP Geoffrey Palmer who was a superb actor in many diverse roles. His portrayal of the doctor in Fawlty Towers where he gets frustrated with the the typical Basil Fawlty mayhem and yells at Basil, "I'm a doctor and I want my sausages" is still hilarious.

    Geoffrey Palmer (who was a veteran of films, dramas and comedy series for many decades) usually played upper- and middle-class authority figures, judges, businessmen, professors, and so on. The sketch is extra funny because he is in it playing the same sort of authority figure.

  • @PFNel
    @PFNel Před 3 měsíci

    You started in the wrong place. There are two or three compilations of Armstrong & Miller as WWII pilots. The humor here is that this was an era when the English still seemed stuffy, reserved, formal, and stiff upper-lipped (to Americans, anyway), and then along come these guys, who talk like 21st century teenagers. It's the incongruity that's so funny.

    Patrick Stewart, aka Captain Piccard, was watching Red Dwarf for the first time and saw a similarity between the episode he was watching and Star Trek TNG. He said he was about to call his lawyers but decided to carry on watching. He never called his lawyers.

    Connor, you love sailing ships don't you. Look out for a drama series called Horatio Hornblower. It is an absolutely wonderful series (the whole four series will cost about £9.99 on Amazon if your interested. Life on the high seas just after Horatio Nelson's victory is depicted how it generally was. The author C S Forester was given access to closed naval records of actions on the high seas at the time - so it should be accurate. It follows the career of Mr Hornblower, in the English navy, from a 17 yo lad to .... well I will let you find out. It shows the British battling against the French and then the French and the Spanish. All three Nations act in a courtly way, honouring their word to each other, even though they are enemies.... before going into battle and slaughtering each other. I thought you might like to watch it some time.

    Connor, the way they are talking is a real british accent. Particularly in south east england, london area. A lot of young people believe they are from jamaican or carribean heritige and tend to speak in some phoney jamacian accent. This also includes many white kids who don't seem to know where their roots belong.
