    These surfacer elements are associative so they move and stretch with your host roof elements.
    Make sure you've downloaded and installed the "Goodies" package from Graphisoft, which contains the accessories library which is where the surfacer objects are located.

    Hi! Great video series. It really helped me understand how to get more realistic looking roof coverings and flashings as well as take off schedules. One question I have though is about the roof profile tool. When you do it you simply select all your roofs and then go to the roof accessories and voila it's there. When I do it an error pops up and says it can't handle multi plane roofs and I have to split them to single plane roofs to make it work. From a quantity take off perspective this is annoying since there is extra steps to make sure everything is accounted for properly with single plane roofs compared to multi plane roofs so it's almost like which one do I choose?
    I swear in your video when you select the hip roof it is still showing up as a multi plane roof after you have applied the profile so I'm hoping you have some insight on what might be happening

    Hello and thanks for the video. I have been trying to modify the parameters of the trapezoid sheet in order to make it orthogonal, but without any success. Could you help me with that? I would much appreciate it. Thank you for sharing!

    Lovely videos , whoever it would great if you get to the point quickly and simple and an ordered playlist with titles would good because its hard tell the next video in series

      Thanks for the comment! I thought the videos were in order, however when I inspected them closer they were not! I reorganized and added the part numbers to the end of each. Thanks for the note super appreciate the feedback!

    I absolutely love this series John 8-)
    I understand what you say from 7:53 to 9:11 and agree then that the "host element area will be a better area for general roof heet procurement & costing take-off purpose.
    But where you measure the area on Plan View 7:53 and compare that to the take-off area I have a question though. Would the area on Plan View not be irrelevant in this case, because the true area would come from measuring against the sloped angle, right?

    • @fusionbim

      BTW brilliant how you use the associative Railing tool for the flashings etc.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Francois! Yes your absolutely right that the true takeoff is going to include the slope. The general roof element is going to provide this accurately. The plan area is not too useful, but it’s good to use as a reference and check to make sure your sloped area values are correct. Thanks for the comment!

    Great video! Did you have to split the hip roof into single planes in order to apply the roof surfacer? And are you able to edit the roof as one if you you do split it?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comment! Yes you do need to split into single planes for the surfacer to work, but I believe you can select them all at once to add the surfacer. There are some limitations on modifying the roof elements after splitting, but it's not a total setback, you can grab them all and adjust slope all at once, or push a few nodes around to reshape as needed without much headache. Thanks!

    Hey, really helpful video ^^ is there a way to make the final tiles to have thickness, not to be only a to be a surface?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the comment and question! Yes the different surfacer types have different parameters, whether standing seam, corrugated etc... If you turn on the 3D detail level to detailed, you'll see it creates a thickness, although I'm not sure if each different type has a parameter to input. The tiles definitely have a thickenss input, but the sheets I don't believe so, just a default thickness of about 1/16" or so...

    would be good if the surfaced would actually act as an object and add gutters, fascia and capping to the roof

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety +1

      That is a great question. I'm poking around in the settings and I don't see an option for cut angle. It's funny the top of the surfacer tool is at 90 degrees, and the bottom is cut straight vertically. I'm not sure if it's possible to customize. I'll dig into it a little more...

      @@CONTRABIM Hi there, it's been a while. I purchese Archicad 25 and I think still the same problem, as you said, the top is 90 degrees but the buttom is substracted vertically. It's funny cuz in roof tool there's actually a parameter "rood edge angle" we need that to roof goodies accesories!. Keep out with the great videos! Cheers!

    Secondly, have you heard about the cadimage add on?

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety

      Yes! They make some great tools, and powerful objects for surfacing and trims for roofs and much more. Unfortunately the cadimage tools are terrible for quantity takeoffs, most you can get is an area. Lengths of fascia, barges, edge trims...not going to happen. Best to takeoff the underlying roofs they get applied to... Thanks!

    • @kristiangrau8283
      @kristiangrau8283 Před 3 lety +1

      @@CONTRABIM I understand now where the approach is coming from, but to be honest, in general the best way to model in order to generate accurate quantity takeoffs is like this, but some times for a roof like this one the amount of time that you are spending modeling and scheduling it's quite big, even though you might already have a template with favourites and everything you wish... anyway keep up the good work, at least there are people that understand and appreciate the power of Archicad. It's simply amazing.

      Hi, I think you're referring to the Archicad "Goodies" package. It's available for download on the GRAPHISOFT site. Once you install you should then get an "Accessories Library" which contains the surfacer tools and others.

    Why isn't this just built into Achicad? Why a plugin? Sheet method is so tedious.

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm not sure why the goodies aren't part of the base install. Maybe some people prefer not to have these options??? For me it's just been one of those install steps with each new release...

    I hope you realise that an area of an orthogonal projection of an inclined plane is not the same as the actual area of the plane...

    • @CONTRABIM
      @CONTRABIM  Před 3 lety

      Absolutely! Sometimes with these surfacer objects it's not quite a straightforward takeoff as it is with roofs.
