  • In January 2016 I visited the Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk and its amazing Märklin layout. This video is a walk-through of the whole layout start to finish including a couple of extracts from the detailed night sequence show. Due to the sheer size of the layout and the display it is sadly not possible to capture the whole night show with a normal camera, but I hope what is included will give a good taste of this amazing experience.
I hope that this video will encourage others to visit the Traumwerk which is an amazing experience for adults and children alike, and one that has been executed in great detail and to a very high standard with little expense spared. I hope you enjoy.

Most videos available show bits and pieces of this layout but you gave us a walk through. It's eye opening experience for people like myself who has not been there. Thanks !

This train layout deserves a professional production house to capture this work of art properly with trains in motion.

Very nice and beautiful work. For a layout of that size, sometimes it takes many many years to tweak it just right. Hard work to get even a little bit of background animation to run the correct way. A whole new level of dedication,, with the patience of a saint. Complete eye candy that makes you feel young again,,to whomever it touches.

Strange! Whilst I fully appreciated the work and technology that has obviously gone into the building of this spectacular model, I would have liked to see more trains running and with starting and stopping at more realistic scale speeds!

The day of my visit they were having technical problems and so you will see a number of trains just stationary sadly. I do hope to return one day

Looks very nice, but why on earth are the electric locomotives driving with the pantographs down? That really spoils the whole effect of this wonderful little world!

I agree. One of my first impressions, this railway and all the others I have seen. I know with digital control and stud contact, the OHL need only be decorative, but even so, as you say, pantographs down just spoils everything.

Scenery is amazing. Altough the bridges with the arches are repeated way to often. Like they only have one type. The layout appears dead. Should be a lot more interaction: Trains (they are running so far in the back you can't see them!), cars (especially near the station), industry with moving parts. Funny details.
What is with that lightshow?! WTF.
Not a model railway I would pay money for to go see.

The layout is miniature reproduction of real portions of the Swiss, Austrian and German landscape, the bridges that have been reproduced are like that because that is what is there in reality.
It is not meant to be an interactive layout more a celebration of the beauty of that area of the world and places that are important to the owner of the museum. I can assure you that the camera does not capture the sheer scale of what has been achieved with this layout, there are also obvious limitations with camera lenses not shared by the human eye.
There is no separate fee to view the layout as it is part of the museum and covered in the entrance fee.

Yea- for all of it's scale- it's rather boring. I nodded off at one point, both during the walkaround AND the cab ride...
