This animated adventure retells the story of the lost daughter of Russia's last czar. The evil Rasputin places a curse on the Romanov family, and Anastasia and her grandmother, Empress Maria, get separated. After growing up in an orphanage, Anastasia encounters two Russian men seeking a reward offered by Empress Maria for the return of her granddaughter. The trio travels to Paris, where they find that the empress has grown skeptical of imposters.

One of my favourite childhood films. Revisiting as an adult, it holds up - beautiful animation, great songs, and engaging characters.....
That said, the reality of history can be an occasional distraction. That's the trouble with making a fairy tale out of real events, the misery of the past creates cognitive dissonance. It'd be like if Aladdin was in Jerusalem during the Crusades; hard to reconcile a fun fantasy when a brutal history is screaming for attention.
I love how this song and scene is both beautiful, joyful, sad and tragic. That mixture of emotions and memories, dancing like the souls drifting across the marble ball
When the grand duchesses were alive, they called themselves OTMA as a group nickname. (Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia.) "In childhood the grand duchesses came up with ОТМА as a sign of sibling closeness and affection for one another, writing it in their diaries. Whilst the family was in captivity after the Russian Revolution of 1917 they were allowed to send few letters, and so the sisters often signed this nickname on cards they had written together for loved ones and friends."
This is my favourite Disney Esque movie ever. I get chills every time i watch this scene or hear this song.

When I close my Eyes and try to relax I always try to picture myself in a Ballroom dancing with the Woman of my Dreams💖 although I haven't been successful on finding Love at all 😥

Yeah but this song is more of a "and fuck the commies", because they really didn't have to pull at the heart strings like this. "Oh yeah if she hadn't been murdered she would be dancing in a ball like a Disney princess. She was a real life Disney princess, and the commies killed her and all her family."

It really does hurt to think about what really happened! The Romanov family were truly good people, but slaughtered over political difference and corruption.
maybe just the children. The Tsar took really bad desitions, by Rasputin´s influnce. His decisions were ill-advised. Nicolas II was a "good" man, but very naive, he was very young

Nope but since Disney own them all they could work out a family ancestry relationship. Say the Tremaines left France and moved to Russia and Anastasia Tremaine married into the Romanov dinasty and Anastasia Romanov is her great, great granddaughter.

@tinkerbelliswhite1771 On Australia Disney plus it may not be but when I googled "anastasia banned" I got this, "In the U.S., it was removed from Disney+ on March 1, 2022, and transferred to Starz on March 18" then they try to lie and say it's NOT cause of the war that's going on and calling people nut-jobs and trolls. I don't own a disney + account but i heard the news from my mother when she wanted to watch the movie, then looked it up. I'll have to ask her when the next time i go over if she still has an account and try to pull it up. luckily for me I have "the seven seas" for me to "loot" a copy while it was off. Plus Starz blows and streaming services blows. sorry for the wall of text.

Who do you think killed her and all the people dancing like Disney characters? This film is pro western and pro Anastasia. It's anti communist Russia. This is one of the most anti Russian scenes ever devised, portraying the (killed by communist Russians) Anastasia as a Disney princess remembering the life she used to lead before the communist Russians killed her family.
The lost alien princess finds her way home and has visions about her past, her home planet is once a enchanting world of beautiful palaces and grand parties, her father was the emperor of Jupiter, and they celebrated anniversaries until a evil clone army led by a Sith Lord called Darth Wallace and his apprentice Darth Gromit invaded the planet and executed the royal family, but the princess escapes and gets amnesia.
Definitely fits the lyrics "far away long ago". At 1:31.
