    Chorus:
You just slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just get yourself free
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just listen to me
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free

I heard this song 30yrs ago when I was a child. I was sick, had chicken pox , and was listening to an oldies station when I went to bed. It's one of those inconsequential moments in your life that for some reason never forget. The "Hop on the bus Gus, don't need to discuss much" line has stuck in my head my entire life, having never heard the song again after that night. Finally, 30yrs later the line popped into my head again and I finally searched and found this song. I feel like I was teleported back to my childhood bedroom as a 7yr old kid as soon as this song started playing. The human mind is a funny thing sometimes.

Awww! Love your story! How about this... my brothers name is Gus! We sang this song growing up and I was so happy his name was in it. Haha. We are in our 50s now and we have a ministry together. The great part of my story is... we own a bus and my brother drives it. When we do ministry concerts or go to events, I yell out the bus door to my brother... "HOP ON THE BUS GUS!" Everyone laughs! I think we have this record from back in the day. Anyway, just wanted to tell you all that. Glad you recovered from the chicken pox back then. Now I am off to search for the song A MILLION TO ONE by the Donny Osmand! Haha! You know it?
Peace and a prayer to you!

@@lynnecarnivale5085 .... Your story is sweet too! I found it because I came to listen to this song to refresh my memory ... because I'm in the process of "re-writing" the lyrics for a parody song - "Fifty Ways to Flee Corona!" I figure if we don't keep laughing through times of trouble, we'll succumb to all the fear-mongering. So far, the verse with your brother's name in it goes like this:
"DON'T hop on the bus, Gus,
Be sure you DON'T touch much,
      Disinfect all your keys, Lee,
      And keep yourself free!
Just stay home and chill, Jill,
And head for the hills, Bill,
DON'T go to your job, Bob,
And DON'T touch a door knob!
There must be fifty ways to flee Corona - fifty ways to flee Corona!"

My mom used to turn this song up when it would come on the radio and sing along like she had a memory instilled deeply within her that was important, or dear to her. The last time I broke it off with a girl before meeting my wife of 12 years now I walked to my car, turned the key, and this song played upon the radio. A song and memory unlocked to me as of recent that I had forgotten.
My moms been gone for 12 years now and I never had the chance to ask her about this song, or so many other things, but she didn’t leave until she met the woman I still love today. Anytime this song plays I can’t help but ride down memory lane of her singing to me going down those back roads with the corn growing tall and the sun shining brightly as the innocence of childhood shone inside me at the time.

This song means so much to me. I am about to 29 this Halloween... But when I was in highschool, it was like my "bestfriend" song with my homie. We just loved it so much like all classic music. But we were particularly fond of this one... Unfortunately my bestfriend passed away coming to my house my senior year in a car accident. But you know what was weird? Is that this song came on the radio when I was driving to the funeral. Of course I busted into tears. At the same time though. It kinda felt like he was reassuring me that he was okay and in a better place. Still to this day.. This song makes me think about everything. Why he was taken so young. All I can come up with is the old saying - the good always die young. Or something to that affect. Because Dusty was a spectacular person. Never in my 29 years met anymore more genuine, caring, talented, and badass as him. Anyway. Hope this doesn't make anyone sad, its not the point. I just had to honestly vent. Even if it is to the "open air" like this text box.

So i laughed at this and yelled at the ceiling that mom could visit me whenever. That next night i was awoken by someone squeezing my leg. I freaked. I'm a lucky bastard. Having fallen in love with this song over 40 years ago, in the very early stage of my enduring love for Paul's songs, *I get to sing this song with the school band that I play in*!! For whatever it's worth, and we're just a band of happy amateurs who reasonably know their instrument, I'm SO looking forward to being able to present this song to our audience.
Particularly because I learned about this song at my own highschool, where it was played in the cantina, and I borrowed the cassette tape to listen to this guy some more, and then some more, and then some more. Still Crazy, My Little Town, I Do It For Your Love, and then this marvellous song. Etched in my ears, and in my brain. SCAATY is such a perfect album, and this is a great song adding to its perfection.
So: I received the song as a student in highschool, and now I will give it back to high school. Only 40 years in between. That's (a) life.
I just have to work on that high note on 'You don't need to discuss much'! 🙂
