  • How to build a shed by yourself diy all steps included start to finish. Diy shed build. A lot of the same steps can be used for a cabin, tiny house, greenhouse, playhouse or any small building. Ever dream of a man cave or she shed to work in or play in? These buildings are so handy to have, you could even live in one! This one is rustic rough cut board and batten. I love how it turned out!
bit.ly/RuggedWood here you can get the RUGGED wood treatment for the siding.
I LOVE how it turned out on my shed siding!!
bit.ly/ShedDoorHandleLock here is the locking handle I used.
bit.ly/HeavyDutyHinges here are the heavy duty black hinges.
bit.ly/DoorBarrelBoltLatch here are the barrel bolt latches for the door that mostly stays shut.
bit.ly/CarriageBolts here you can check for carriage bolts but you may be better off getting them at a local place.
bit.ly/CordlessTools here you can check out some nice cordless tools if you want some to make the job easier.
bit.ly/TapeMeasureMax if you need a good tape measure these are my favorite.
bit.ly/Window24x24 here you can find a pretty cheap window as well. Otherwise I would recommend the Lowes one.
There's probably more I could add but all I can think of for now.
www.csgnetwork.com/foundations... here is the one calculator I liked for squaring the building.
www.blocklayer.com/square-lay... here is a second one.
Here is the video timeline if you want to skip ahead since I know it's a long video. You can't have a very detailed shed build without it being long. ;)

It’s been a year. How do you like the shed now? Wish it was bigger? Anything you would have changed? I’m thinking hard about building this to use as a wood working shop, but using a slanted/lean to roof…most vids call for that T1-11 siding..:but that’s $30 a sheet where I am. I can do zip sheathing for that price point

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  Před 2 lety +5

It’s actually been 2 years now as it took me a while to edit all that footage. Overall I love it! I didn’t want to make it bigger because I wanted a shop. I didn’t want this to be the excuse to never build one. Lol. Overall it’s a really nice size for what I do. Storing stuff but also have a workbench on one side. I use most of the attic for storage too. It’s amazing how much you can fit in one of those.

I just finished my own version of your shed design. Thanks so much for making this video, it was incredibly helpful. By the end of the project, I couldn't tell you how many times I rewatched it. It was a lot! Ha. From beginning to end you taught an excellent course in shed building and really carpentry in general. I'm a total rookie at this stuff and was able to pull it off. It took me forever and I spent more than you did, but the end result is a really great looking shed. I could go on and on about the mistakes I made and lessons learned. I'll refrain. Mainly I just wanted to say a big thank you for taking the time to film your project in such a clear and thorough way. Awesome video all around.

I love it!!! I built a 10x16 too. Did it all by hand using Lowes lumber for the foundation and floor, but framing and siding the rest with pine that I cut on my woodmizer LT27 sawmill. I wrapped it with bevelled siding that I cut on the mill and tongue and grooved the 7/8 inch roof boards. Then shingled the roof. I made a sliding 6 foot wide door from oak off of the mill. I put in a hinged door and window ac unit into one end, and large windows that were low enough to slide boards thru when open if i wanted to rip-cut long pieces inside. I used cedar shakes under the gable ends, which look cool. I used true 2 inch by 4 inch framing members, so I had to use 20d nails. (therefore no nail gun, instead a hammer.) I love you video. I took pics and put them in a scrap book, but I should have detailed it in a video, like you did. CZcams wasn't as popular when I built in around 2006. great work friend. Back in 2011 I rebuilt my shed taking out an old 7’ X 10’ (old fashioned hand built, probably 25 years old) on a weak concrete slab, upgraded to a 10’ X 14’ and 8’ tall on a 4” concrete slab with a 10’ X 10’ approach on the alley side. It has a service door opposite end of the alley end that has a 7’ X 8’ roll up door (motorcycle access) and a horizontal long window on each side wall.
I watched your video to see how someone else might/would build their own..
I must say the attention to detail you showed and narrated was impressive. Also talking about how others might convert it into a tiny home or cabin and preparing the subfloor for insulation was totally unexpected but welcomed.
I’m now afraid you have a new subscriber in the works...
P.S. with my full size Goldwing Motorcycle, Snowblower, Lawnmower and other small items in the shed it’s amazing just how fast it filled up...

Thank you. A man after my own heart when it comes to making an excellent build. I totally appreciate the quality. At my age, the challenge is doing the roof. We live in a camper currently and are working with our son to get his family into a full-sized home. There is enough property to build something like this for our own tiny home.
Four years ago, I built two sheds for a customer. It was great fun. I used regular metal on the larger one and standing seam on the smaller. That was a new challenge.
Blessings to you and yours. Happy New Year.

Not that plywood is not also chemically fastened together but the amount is night and day compared to OSB and the different particle woods they push out these days as safe plus the fact plywood off gases during the curing process.

My shed was built with a more "foresty" appeal and look in the design.
After all, I did have the help of a local Bigfoot that taught me a lot about using naturally gathered forest materials like pine needles and fallen limbs and such.
Mine even has indoor plumbing as we put a hole in the floor to squat over.
I suppose that's where the term, "Sasquatch" came from as they like to squat when they, well, you know.
Anyway, it all turned out very well and didn't cost me a thing, well, except for some vegetables I had to buy for the Squatch guy who helped me. I tried to offer him more like some deodorant and a brush for his body hair but he settled for the veggies.
