Barn Find Fergie. Episode 1. How To Remove The Head

- In this episode Jimmy and Gav start the Fergie's strip down by showing how to remove the tractors head, enabling them to take their first look inside the engine.
This project follows a Barn Find 1953 Ferguson TEF 20 Little Grey Fergie. This vintage tractor was found in a hedge where it had sat for 31 years. Can Jimmy de Ville (from Goblin Works Garage) and Gav (former RAF engineer) bring it back to life using their engineering, building, fabrication and make do and mend skills?
There might be extreme, dangerous and crazy measures needed to breath life back into this retro, vintage vehicle and once farming extreme machine.

Sensational, just bought a TEF and found this series. I’ll watch every episode. Cheers chaps.
Nice to see a film of someone bringing a forgotten tef back to life I done the same with mine after it was sat in a play area with concrete in its wheels just a heads up on the pistons and cylinders they are only pushed in you can knock the cylinders up from underneath with the pistons in and then cut the liners off and just replace them all the parts are available that's what I done with mine
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the tip.
... it's... Incredibly well done - from a purely cinematographic point of view
Thank you
I have a tea 20, petrol; I'll never stop being amazed by the ingenuity of Mr Harry Ferguson - the guy basically invented the modern tractor and of a quality that's... Built to last. Forever
Kind regards Kim
Well done. Most people would have walked away with a Tractor like that. My TED doesn't seem so bad now.
It's a challenge!
Good video. Going to be interesting come rebuild when Gav is going to want to tidy the ports, maybe add some compression and possibly some reheat feature.
Jet tractor....mmmmm 🤔🤔
Diesel works great, try a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF, gets into places you wouldn't believe, careful with heat though.....
Great suggestion!
My guess on the clear liquid coming out of the sump would be 30 years' worth of condensation build up, and it was kept below the oil as it's more dense. With an alloy sump (if that's what it has?) there wouldn't be any steel to rust 😊 After 9 years of k-series engined MG ownership in my past I'm only too aware of seeing water come out before the oil 🤣
Looks a great potential series 🙂👍
Great thought, thanks for getting involved!
I restored a TE20 petrol/paraffin model when I was 15. It's still running to this day as far as I'm aware and this episode bought back great memories of it. I'm guessing that the water in the sump might be condensation build up.
Amazing to see it so clear! Great to hear we bought back memories!
@@jimmydevillesgarage6585 can't wait for the following episodes
Great vid well done boys. Please show us an much of the machining and engineering processes as possible 👏🏻👏🏻
We will do our best! It's a big learning curve!
I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a bit of fabrication
It's more beastly than beauty but I'm looking forward to seeing you bring her back to life 👍👍👍👍🏁
Thanks Scooby, glad to have you along for the ride.
Great video. Loved the blooper reel at the end 👌
There's more to come!
Great episode guys. Brings back memories driving one on dad's farm
Lovely to hear. We hope she drives again one day!
Looking forward to the next episode. This is something different to watch for a change.
Great to hear. Episode two is out at the same time next week!
Really I'm big fan of Jimmy
You are very kind!
Awesome videos. Helped me no end in getting our TEF20 going. Only thing was i had to watch most of your films with the sound low due to the enuendos which were frequent in your dialogue!!
Great to see you working on something again 👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Great series, going well. Enjoyable
Thank you!
Great episode! I can relate to the water in the sump! When I drained my Scammell scarabs Perkins engine before restoration, I found a load of water and oil in the sump
Tanks Lewi!
Watching them all again from the start
My only complaint is it's not long enough. Looking forward to this series
Hoping you enjoyed episode 2?
Haha love the show guys, wish i was there to share my old man knowledge. The out takes are brill!

Thanks Ray, Episode 2, same time next week!
Thanks for watching, and your kind comment Ray
Usually I like to soak my pistons in red wine lol 🤣
Is that a thing????
Really enjoyable, guys. I can't wait for next weeks episode.

A bit short but interesting. Both Jimmy and @Ratarossa have the same voice!
Fastest 15 minutes of your life. Longer episode next week!
LOVE IT!
Thanks!
Great video
Thanks Allan! Your comments are really appreciated.
Your welcome. My father has a fergie tractor in Australia, it used to belong to his father, who was a cattle man and butcher.
@@allanblackesq Sounds like quite a man!
Sat waiting 12 minutes and counting 👍😆
Would love your honest feedback Tony!
Jimmy de Ville's Garage Only if you send me the Bandit TShirt 😂😂. Seriously though, the production quality and imagery second to none. I really got a sense of the rust and all the issues you and Gav are facing with the rebuild. Felt I was right there with you both. I take you filmed in HD. It’s really paid off. Great commentary as well keeping us aware of what’s going on and being stripped etc. Can’t wait for episode 2. Episode 1 really rocked Jimmy. Thanks for filming this, appreciated. And finally given what’s going on, stay safe.
@@tonystrange7224 Thanks Tony, you know I appreciate it! Glad to see you could see the value in our hard work. Same time next week?
Yes, your hard work has really come though Jimmy, go enough for mainstream TV. So soon for the next episode, wasn’t expecting that. Brilliant news, can’t wait. Can’t explain why that water was so clear though, I get why it came out first, but not rusty or dirty after all the years it stood is a mystery. And what did Gav do with the stash of Columbian marching powder you found 😉😂😂
Tony Strange Thank you Tony, Jimmy has definitely been putting some hard graft in with the editing, it’s been good fun though.
Hi Jimmy, I seen on a ferguson page on Facebook that you were after a Diesel tank for your Tef I have a couple off tanks spair if you still need one and lots off other tef20 parts.
Reguards Mark
It'd be great to discus Mark. A solid hole free tank is very much needed!
@@jimmydevillesgarage6585 I did pm you on fb messenger about the diesel tank
@@markroberts2151 I've not seen it Mark, what did you say?
Just discovered this for first time 😁👍 Liked and subscribed. Plenty of watching to do 😅
Why are the cylinders not made round? They have a sort of cut-out one one side. It that for extra intake or exhaust room? Thanks, Interesting tractor video.
It's for pre combustion as ignition happens. Thanks for watching
Liked it :)
Thanks, that means a lot.
Thanks for watching
What type of engine is it a perkins?
Good start guys. Could be longer. Jimmy, loose the hat (can't always see your face to camera) and please can we have UK folk music as it is a British tractor.
Lock down hair required hat control, it's gone in later episodes. The music is all performed and played by people I know who have very kindly offered to support the project, please feel free to look them up. Thanks for your comments, I hope you enjoy episode 2 which is out the same time next week.
Gav,please don't wear a finger ring when working with hand tools.
Yep, good call Ethan, a de-sleeved finger is not pretty. I certainly wouldn’t wear it when using the lathe etc👍
