The 1400 player in the chat who "destroyed a 2300 player" and started trash talking no longer has an account on lichess... smells like justice to me.
Many such cases 😅
@@JohnBartholomewChess“Many such cases”
I looked him up, he's still there lol
@@inducedbycoffee No he's not, the account has been closed
Huh. Now he's gone... Could have sworn I looked him up yesterday, found the arena he played with John and looked at his games... He placed 101st...
Keep this excellent content coming John, I'm here for all of it! It really helps me improve my chess greatly.
Love your videos. I prefer the longer time controls but even at 3+0 your comments are super helpful and instructive.
These are the best! I wish John would do more of these. Fast time-control, lots of games, strong opponents...love it!
Our favorite Scandi player celebrating the MN summer "aloha style."
Nice effort in your games. Thanks for sharing another Arena!
Great job in that tournament, John! And insightful analysis as always!
Thanks Joshua!
Damn, like taking candy from a baby! Amazing how you are able to squeeze so much out of every position. I’ve been a class A player forever, but I feel I’m getting stronger by watching your videos. Thanks.
Glad these videos are helping you!!
As always, that was both entertaining and instructive. I counted 13 games that John played in the tournament, and there was definitely a lot of fun action. I guess 3 + 0 online chess can be played intelligently and well if you are a strong and experienced blitz player like John. But for many of us (including myself) it can be a blunder fest. I found that K + P ending against Zaplya (?) to be fascinating and rather mind-boggling. The analysis of that ending afterwards (including brilliant moves like ...f5!) reminds me how difficult K + P endings can be, and how much I still have to learn to understand their full complexity.
Some suggestions/requests for openings John might consider playing in future videos: for White: 1. b3, 1. g3, 1. f4, 1. Nc3, 1. e3; for Black: Pirc, Modern, Caro-Kann, French, Alekhine, ...b6 lines; and Dutch, Benoni, Chigorin, Albin counter gambit.
43:56 could just check take bishop, the moment right before you lost the knight 😮
Good spot!
Nice to see you're back on Lichess.
26:00 regarding opening suggestions I remember early in the channel you played a lot of sharp semi-slavs. I don't know much about the opening but those games were always interesting.
That is correct, I used to play Semi-Slav more often. Haven't explored the nuances for awhile and therefore kinda stopped because of the complexity of lines like 5.Bg5, but I should pick it up again!
Great time management, some great pauses in key positions but nobody took you out because of it. Thanks for the upload!
Yet another big difference between John and I, I don’t dare share my full thought process publicly. 😂
Unless it's about the weather in Minnesota, eh? 😀
@@JohnBartholomewChess In MN, weather is life. 😂😂
The extension is really cool. All the themes people have created are fun to play around with
Hey John! Great video! How do you get the clock over and under the board? Is it a trick of video editing magic? I have the prettier Lichess add-on but my clock is in the normal place.
At 43.56 couldn't you have checked the king with your rook and then chopped off the bishop? Great games John! Love everything about this. Your time management was excellent!! 😊
Love your channel
Hey John, I haven't done a course on chessable yet, but was really interested when you mentioned you were in the middle of producing the new Scandi course with Qa5. Just wondering when that was expected? Super keen to try it!
Thanks a lot for asking! :) I plan to self-publish it, so you'll definitely be hearing about it on my channel. I'm aiming for a September or October release...making good progress :)
oh man tha extensikn is pretty dang nice
I was so excited to watch you play a Samisch, then black blundered their Knight!! Why doesn't that happen to me?! Lol. Thanks, John!
I’d love to see you play the English more. My gut says it’s an opening that is very in line with your style but maybe that’s wrong. Either way, I’d enjoy seeing your thought process.
Thanks for the suggestion! I do play it every once in awhile; 1.c4 might actually still might be my best-scoring opening in OTB play.
sorry if i missed him talking about it in the vid, but whats that extension for lichess?
Prettier lichess: prettierlichess.github.io/
I've seen you post a lot of games. What is your best game
My full thought process is "I'll be happy with top 550".
Lichess should definitely include this extension in their code
2:06 is the knight on c7 hanging? 3+0 is so stressfull
Edit: somebody allready pointed out, that in response whites own knight can be taken on e2
8:25 Am I missing something or can you play Qxc4 winning a piece after exf5 Qh4 forking the knight back. That should be a piece for a pawn with no obvious downside
Didn't consider it in the game, and it looks good. White might be able to mitigate the damage with 7...Qxc4 8.d3 and Ng5-f3 if the queen eventually goes to d4, but probably Black wins a clean pawn at least.
Just tried the PrettierLichess extension. Always wanted to customise the board colours! Thanks John!
Good content
Thank you!
Even if it had been possible, wouldn't a stalemate be fine in the last game? Or would he have somehow received more points than you in the Arena scoring?
Yes, would have still won me the tourney. But would have spoiled the winning streak 😀
Can you try the Benko Gambit sometime? :)
Check my last vid! Thought that was from the White side :)
@@JohnBartholomewChess Just checked it out. Thanks for the reply!
what is berserking?
In Lichess tournaments you can click the “berserk” button which halves your time with the benefit of an additional tournament point if you win
I am no expert but feel like I can usually follow along pretty well with what is happening - but your opponent in game 2 has me so confused with some of these move choices 😅
edit - this actually seems to be a recurring theme throughout quite a few games ... lol
around 9 min.. didnt you have take bishop, pawn takes bishop, check winning knight
2:07 Knight is hanging on c7.
Black can take back on e2
Good point, I definitely didn't see that. As DarkM0m0 points out though, Black does have ...Qxe2 in reply.
Are you ever going to play lichess for 2 hrs on Sundays again?
Possibly. I'm still dealing with this voice issue, so pushing a livestream out to 2 hours is tough at the moment (maybe I can do some shorter ones)
@@JohnBartholomewChess didn't realize that you were sick, wishing you a speedy recovery and return to health & lichess plays.(when you are able) Really enjoy your vlogs
@@lesterlesoine9225 Thank you - I appreciate it!
Sir, why your lichess is different?
Using this extension: prettierlichess.github.io/
8:26 Looks like John could have won a piece with *7...Qc4 8.ef Qh4+*
ooo nice line! Had a feeling there was something there. I wonder if 7...Qxc4 8.d3 kinda defends, though, e.g. 8...Qd4 9.Nf3? Probably still good for Black though.
Prettier lichess is an oxymoron
