    Finally. Someone who actually compared an acoustic preamp with standard DIs. Thanks!

    A wonderful review! Thank you very much. I have been using the PZ Pre for 8 years, and it still works just fine - it is just an essential part of my rig. I play acoustic guitar, Ubass, and ukulele through it.. and I also use a Fender Acoustasonic guitar for dances and clubs. I use effects for all the instruments, and the pedals range from octave pedal to delays, tremolo, and reverb. It's absolutely the heart of my gigging rig.

    @jayLeonardJ - Fantastic gear rundown and stellar guitar work, Jay! I have used the PZ-Deluxe and the PZ-Pre and from also talking with Radial found that the Deluxe Low is Shelved and is different than the Pre. They both are amazing and I use just the PZ-Pre. Martin OM and Timberline T60 Harp Guitar with K&K Pure Mini and Undersaddle Fantastick pickups in both. Great units!

      Thanks for the tip, didn't know that the low shelf was different on them! Cool rig you got there, BTW :)

    I think the Radial PZ units are the closest heirs to the legendary Pendulum SPS-1. I had a Pendulum, bought used near mint, and it was incredible. I sold it bc it was SO MUCH preamp and I was not worthy.

    Good video Jay. I was hoping you'd say a little more about the switchable buffer(s) because I don't quite understand how that works. I sometimes use a PZ-Pre to switch between a piezo pickup violin and a magnetic pickup guitar. They share effects (comp, verb, delay), so the loop is great, but I need to EQ them differently and the PZ-Pro looks like it would be better than using separate inline EQ pedals on my board on the 2 channels. Only complaint with the PZ-Pre is that it uses 15 volts, so I need 2 separate power supplies on my board. If it used 9 volts or 18 volts . . .

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  Před 3 lety

      If your piezo violin is active (needs a battery to work), than it don't matter how you set the buffer. However, if it is passive, set the buffer to the 10M mode. It will work just fine with the magnetic guitar pickup with either mode as well.

    Does it works for acoustics with other kinds of pickups or only with the ones with piezos?

    Great video... though, always wondered... how do Canadians sing the Alphabet song? Does it end with ... Zeeee or Zed? Just doesn't work with Zed... does it? So is there a different song for Canadian children learning their ABCeds? 🤯😎🤘🎸

      @JayLeonardJ  Před 2 lety +1

      We say Zed and deal with the fact that it doesn't rhyme, haha.

    I saw one video from Jay and subscribed. Excellent job in all facets. I have a question, if anyone can answer it. With the PZ Pro having two separate channels to possibly connect two separate instruments (even if similar, such as two guitars), the Sound engineer (FOH or studio) is going to get only one pre-EQ balanced signal, and I imagine he’s going to demand separate signals so that he can do his own level, EQ, compression, FX on each signal. Thus, he would probably require using a separate DI box for one of the two instruments. In light of this, shouldn’t the PZ Pre and PZ Pro have two distinct balanced pre-EQ outputs?
    I realize you can send the engineer both the pre-EQ and the post-EQ output, and he can use one for guitar A and the other for guitar B, but that’s not really how these products were designed.

    Which of the these do you recommend for the K&Ksound pure mini pick up?

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  Před rokem +1

      Depends on your set up. If it is the pure mini with no extra effects or secondary mics or anything needed, I would go for the PZ-Deluxe. That EQ setup witll definitely help tame some of the low end that can get a little out of control with that system as well as get the sound nice and balanced for your needs.

    Hi Jay, what can you say about this setup? (Planning to build one) here it goes. ACOUSTIC GUITAR - BOSS WL-60 - BOSS REVERB OR CHORUS - RADIAL AC DRIVER Then connected to our PA system via XLR. Sorry for the no brainer question. I just want a pure, good solid acoustic tone. Thank you. And BTW what is Wet and Dry effects? 😁

    • @JayLeonardJ
      @JayLeonardJ  Před 2 lety +1

      That would work perfect as long as your acoustic uses an active pickup (has a battery in it).
      A wet/dry rig would be a rig where your guitar is split into outputs: one line is just your clean guitar tone and the other has your reverb and delay sounds on it.
      Good luck and rock on!
