I learned American style kickboxing at the age of 12. I'm 44 now. UFC is about money and entertainment. Weili and her team are about Martial Art, just like what I learned. Which is respect, being humble, discipline and love. I love Zhang !!!!

You watch these videos and you can't help but be struck by the humility and sincerity of Weili. She is just a funny young woman, but at the same time she knows that the eyes of her whole country are upon her. She laughs, and jokes. But you get the feeling that she would die before allowing herself to lose a fight because she didn't train hard enough. I think Joanna is one of the best female MMA fighters in the world, but I think she will find that fighting Weili will be like fighting a hurricane. Weili is one tough, scary woman when she steps inside the cage.
@Marten Dekker People who fight for a living are going to be very self confident in general. But self confident is not being conceited of course. Please give an example of an occasion when you considered Weili conceited or self-agrandizing. I'm not just arguing with you to argue. If you will link me a video of an interview of Weili or whatever, I will definitely go watch it and see if I agree with your view. Thanks!

Chinese people especially people of her calibre dont get where they are by having that kind of personality.. She wouod have lost trainers and friends family and gotten nowhere. The whole culture of chinese is to be humble and unfortunately people of the west that dont understand that think its weakness.. To be anymore humble youd have to remove your tongue in the fight game..

I've been watching these videos in a completely jumbled order after stumbling on them accidently. Took me a good while to figure out the channel was a sort of vlog made by you, a language teacher.
Really fascinating stuff you have captured on camera. As fascinating as Khabib and the combat sports culture of Dagestan that was pretty much entirely unseen and unknown to anyone outside before Khabib became a star.
But there was so many eyes on khabib and his world by the time he was champ, because he was based half in the USA , went around with a massive team of 'brothers', was teamed up with AKA and iamthebay who made videos, and had journalists who visited him in Dagestan get interviewed repeatedly on JRE.
Weili Zhang is fascinating because she is seemingly all alone, and achieved this success with just her coach and one of few fairly young and small MMA gyms in China. Which themselves have not been seen much by people outside of those who are MMA fighters in China!
The world's exposure to MMA in China is basically just Ramsey Dewey and Xu Xiaodong.
The world kinda missed out on FOB khabib, shy and nervously learning English. Which is stuff of legend now. But we get this unique insight on Weili , who is amazingly willing to share everything it seems. Like having a crush on Bollywood actor amir khan lol.
Can't imagine any other UFC fighter being so innocent and candid.

I’ve been to Beijing many times between 1991 to 2010....Actually it’s a pretty decent city and the people there were always very kind to me. It did help that I studied Mandarin Chinese at my university and finally became fluent so the language barrier was broken at least

Hey Amir, very good job teaching English to Weili. One question I have is how you got this job as her English teacher. What I mean is that there are many Chinese people who speak perfect English. I would have her to have hired a truly bilinqual teacher. I say this when I saw her struggling to express the English word "rhythm" and she was mumbling 节奏 under her breath. Unless, you actually speak and understand English and you just ordered her to speak to you ONLY in English, in which case it would be understandable :P. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Thank you for your comment. My name is Ramaize. I understood she meant rhythm, but I gave her some time to find the word until I interfered. Sometimes, you have to let the learner struggle. I didn't include that bit in the video because I put my camera down and made her repeat rhythm a good ten times. You're right, but a lot of them use Chinese to teach English. I believe translation can be effective, but it defeats the purpose of language learning. Many things cannot be translated accurately.
