Tom constructs his own effluence digester in the cellar to run the lighting and electricity self-sufficiently. When left to look after the house while Tom and Barbara gather firewood, Jerry worries as the digester stops working.
Some of these things are funnier after you go on the net and look them up, especially for a yank...
"When I come home from the office sometimes, our house looks like the Blackpool illuminations!" lol
Anybody else notice that this was filmed in mid winter... all the trees are bare! You can see their breath.. must have been freezing! Lettuce in mid winter?

Hard to think the good life was filmed nearly fifty years ago it certainly was a good life back then only seems like yesterday comedy was far better back then way more funnier

I would like to know if that book actually exists and who is the author. This was 1975, so the book is older than that. I've had no luck online.

The facilities would have been a single-serve setup in a residential home. Yours is the only comforting scenario proffered, but not likely, alas.
