- The #Tikka #t3x TAC A1 is a #boltaction #prs #rifle chambered in #308 #winchester among others (including #223 #Remington and #65creedmoor .
It is an exceptionally well made rifle - produced in the same factory as where #Sako rifles are made.
These are great tools for long distance #targetshooting , competitions, and somewhat potentially (but never practically) hunting.
Grab a drink and some popcorn and get comfy. This is gonna be a long one.

Got mine 2 weeks ago can't wait for the weather to warm up for range days.
Congrats!
63 and just secured my gun permit here in Canada. Tac A1 is the first purchase!
Never, NEVER too late brother! Welcome to the club and congratulations on your rifle!
Things i've done with mine: Hit a soda can at 1,006 yds in just 3 shots using an "educated guess" for my DOPE on my first shot. Hit a soda can at 1,380 yards in 14 shots in a 15mph 90 degree crosswind and horrible mirage. Mirage was so damn bad i only hit the can after making a neck shot that merged with a lower head shot and i could finally see my impact and was able to lower the next shot to hit the soda can. Single impacts were not visible on the white pained silhouette because the mirage was just that bad.
Last summer shot a 5 shot group at 750 yards from a mountain top across a windy valley that measured the equivalent of less than 0.5 MOA or less than 1/2". Went 2 for 7 on a competition silhouette at 1,850 yards.
All "match" ammo... no hand loads.
I cannot recommend this rifle highly enough. Was topped with a NF ATACR 7-35x56 with Mil-xt reticle.
That’s incredibly impressive. Also, really nice optic :)
@@canadianoperator I was fortunate enough to spend about 3.5 yrs shooting on BLM land in the state of Utah. I would go multiple times a week some times but usually at least saturdays and sundays. I got really good with a variety of rifles but that Tac A1 is the business. My favorite rifle without a doubt.
Glad to see another new Canadian gun channel! Good vid
Glad to see another subscriber! 🙏 Thank you!
We néed more this one is great
@@freedhommepodcastThank you :)
Love the Vid! Again! I have the T3X CTR, that screw up front is for a mirage shield, you might have another a little back below the scope? that's where mine sits in the CTR. if you own these, DO NOT TIGHTEN THAT SCREW! you will destroy the rail on the back end. The shield helps with your scope image when there's high temps coming off the barrel. Great rifles for sure, I put holes in holes every time with this beauty. Side note, I also love my x95, and just put a green laser/light on it, highly recommend, makes her look pretty badass in a dark room, throw a little vape exhale in there and man what a sight! Thanks again for all you do for us Canadian gun guys.
Beautifully written. And thanks so much! This jogs my memory! That is absolutely right! That is so cool that they thought of that :) I did snug up the front screw, on the brake. I hope that's fine :) Never in a million years even would have thought of that, that's awesome. By the way, thanks so much for being a subscriber. To most people this might not be a big deal. But I am grateful that I provide enough value for you to want to subscribe, and come back to watch more videos. It's this that really keeps me going, and I just wanted you to know I really appreciate it :)
Beauty. I got the all black in 6.5CD from rangeview.
Very nice!
I love the gun. Such an awesome piece of kit and I agree with you on the colour. I have a Tikka 3x CTR mounted on an XRS chassis so I can appreciate how good these guns are in terms of accuracy and smoothness. Thank you for the review.
As for the 6.5 Creedmoor muzzle velocity, it depends on a number of factors, such as barrel length and bullet weight. However, you are looking at speeds of of around 2700 to 2800 FPS with match ammunition.
Couldn’t agree more 💯 CTR is amazing and definitely one I was considering. But ultimately decided to go for the TAC.
My pleasure brother! It’s nice to see you again. Hope you had a very merry Christmas and wish you and your family all the best in 2024. ;)
About the 6.5, I thought it was a bit faster than the 308 when comparing similar weights and barrel lengths but this does make sense. Thank you for this!
I appreciate you taking the time and sharing your thoughts as always brother. Thank you! 🙏
Can't wait such a beautiful rifle
Not much longer to wait my friend :) Sorry to have kept you waiting so long.
@@canadianoperator great video dude 100% worth the wait
@@Moderatordanthank you brother :) Glad you liked it. Won’t be that long til the next one ;)
The Screw on top of the break can be used as fixation point for a anti mirage strap. I‘ve got this exact same rifle and on a good day, with good 175gr. ammo you can hit up to 1.2km. Love it to bits. Greetings from Switzerland.
Thank you! Yea it’s a fantastic rifle. I haven’t tried the heavier projectiles just yet as from my reading I’ve found that the gun likes the lighter ones a bit more. But definitely worth a try. I’ve got some Hornady Match ammo in the safe that I’m very much looking forward to testing.
Have several thousand rounds through my .308, still works great. The cheek riser is very slippery when sweating or in rain. I put a thin layer of adhesive foam rubber on there, game changer. Did not know, that the bolt has Teflon, it does wear of though at places over time. Butt pad adjustment indeed is not great, but I am working on steel plates that I’ll put there as spacers. For my competitions 10kg is allowed, I’ll have 9,4kg and the rifle balanced then. Extra screw on muzzle break is for mirage shield, that is a must have, unless you always shoot with enough wind around. On the rear picatinny I have a bag rider. Mono pods are not that poular anymore, as it seems. Of course depends on the competition, might not even be allowed to use a mono pod.
Glad you enjoy yours :) Thanks for the heads up about the mirage shield :)
would love to see some more drab or FDE apparel, could wear them under combats for work. Cheers and great weapon.
A great idea and definitely something I can work on :) Thanks for watching and being subbed, as always, much appreciated!
I have the 308 in same colour arken ep5 with high halo rings wildcat moderator only thing changed was the cheep cheak riser wich was solved by a good aftermarket one at £60 recomend arken rings
Very cool! Also, I'm thinking of just 3D printing my own cheek riser :P Easier said than done but a great alternative if you can't find a replacement for the stock one. The stock one is honestly not horrible but it would be nice if it were more comfortable.
Sako makes some beauties. Over arching company is Beretta
That parent company was just by means of acquisition though, right? I don’t think they were always under the Beretta family. But yes Sako’s process is just amazing. It would be a dream come true to one day walk through their factory in Finland.
@@canadianoperator awesome thank you for the info
I got mine almost a year ago now. Only 3 changes to the rifle and it was perfect. First, absolutely get a new muzzle brake. The stock Brake is actually for a .338 Lapua. There was a noticeable difference after buying a 6.5cm brake.
I extended the bolt handle to Pineapple handle, and it is one of the smoothest bolt actions I've ever handled.
Finally, and this is actually a nuisance, on mine the forend will get loose somehow and there will be some give when handling the rifle. I checked torques and they are all to spec. Taking it off and re tightening fixes it. I'm assuming I need to add Lock tight. Still, it's the only rifle I've ever had an issue like that with.
Amazing gun, and catches alot of attention at the range.
Final note! The folding stock will touch the chasis and cause a wear mark. Putting some simple padding, or tape fixes the issue.
That’s great, I was thinking of changing out the muzzle brake on mine. When you say it’s better I’m guessing you’re saying it’s lower recoil because the gases are better routed outside? To be honest I actually don’t mind how it feels right now. It’s very comfortable to shoot even with a 338muzzle brake.
As for the stock causing marks on the body, I haven’t seen that, nor have I seen any issues with my fore-end. That being said though Loctite is not a bad idea.
I definitely get a lot of attention at the range as well when I bring mine, especially when I go prone lol I want to try to get this out to the 150 m range and start driving some tacks out there.
Thanks for the comment, brother, stay safe and enjoy your Tikka :-)
@canadianoperator and thanks for the reply! Take a look at the Ultradyne Pegasus Tanker Brake. It was noticeably different. Ironically it was my wife who noticed the most recoil difference. She rarely shoots so I think it stood out more to her.
@@DarkMatter13377of course! Sure, I’ll check that out, thanks very much :)
Great no nonsense review just bourght my tika tac 308 this week got the arken ep5 scope to put on and iv gone for the atlas bi pod and a wildcat moderator 😊
Beautiful! Congrats!
I have the same rifle what glass and scope mount are you using? and what is the range you get with it?
I use the Vortex Viper Cantilever mount and the Venom 5-25 :) Usually 100.
The little one on top of the brake is for a mirage shield
Indeed thank you so much! :)
@@canadianoperator np. Love the collor on youre tik tak. Mine is all Black in 6.5 with a burris eliminator scope.
Thinking of getting a .223 version of this but in black. Thought about building my own with a Tikka T3x and an MDT chassis however this rifle gets great reviews and I’m thinking this is the better option. Great video by the way.
It’s funny you should say that because I got a lot of people in comments and on discord telling me that I should build my own from the ground up.
While that argument absolutely holds water and is very valid, and would probably end up in a slightly more satisfying result… I just can’t ignore how meticulous Tikka is when making their rifles. I’ve seen a tour of their factory and it’s absolutely insane the lengths they go to in order to achieve perfection.
For that reason, and because I’m lazy 😂 I went with the TAC and never looked back. There are days I just hold it in my living room and wonder how I could ever build something so perfect.
So if you have the experience like, if you’re a gunsmith, for example, you can probably make some thing of equal or similar quality and you would definitely have a higher sense of accomplishment by doing that as opposed to just going to the store and purchasing something from the factory. However, Tikka really makes it easy and the results speak for themselves.
Well said !
@@SigCross ❤️
I picked up the TAC A1 in .223 in black because I have so many components for .223 given the AR15 ban. The gun is a really fine piece. Bore sighted, zeroed at 100 yds and hitting 3/4” dots at 200 yds inside 20 rounds. No fatigue shooting this gun as there is almost zero recoil.
First 🎉
Like a boss 🫡
What can say ? I’m actually speechless for once. Once again a fantastic video by CO. Well worth the wait. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for this community ! ❤
@@robbysreloadingroom I appreciate you brother. It’s awesome people like you that help make this what it is. :)
Anyone know where to get this in 6.5 CM in coyote brown in the US??? Can’t find it anywhere
A great question, but unfortunately I wouldn't know. Are you able to purchase here and import back home?
Very good video stop crying over the length of pull adjustment lol show us the ammo you're using and the groups we want to see bullet over bullet
Thanks! And nah, gonna keep crying lol because at this price point Tikka really shit the bed with that system. Nothing is perfect and this is the only thing that makes this gun not perfect. People need to know that if they’re about to drop 3G on a new gun.
Any recommendations on places to shoot this in the Hamilton, gta area?
Obviously this thing is made to be shot outside, but if you are completely strapped for places and can't find anywhere good on crown land, there's always Urban Tactical in Brantford. It's a very small indoor range of only 15m. But the staff are always nice and it's better than not being able to shoot at all. In fact I took my T3X lite there before I had my membership to the outdoor club I'm currently at.
Thanks! Also any store recommendations near the gta for the tikka t3x tac a1? After watching this I’m convinced I’m going for this over the sig cross!
@@Thevapehouseunboxed No worries! Honestly I’d definitely shop around. I don’t necessarily want to advertise particular stores :P But as far as firearms go the profit margins are usually a lot thinner than ammo, which means the variation on price is generally quite small.
The old ammo bin website was recently replaced with a different one that apparently lets you compare prices, and this time it includes guns, so that might be worth checking out (forgot what it’s called).
Remember that although you may not want to wait, sometimes you can get a better deal from a more rural or out of the way store if you buy online. Which within Canada, you absolutely can!
Good luck and have fun with your new Tikka :)
Is there a range in Ontario that is more than 100 yards or 100 m ???
I believe the one at Canadian Forces Base Borden was at least 600 but you have to know an active service member. That said I also heard it was being shut down. Other than that I don’t know if anything else.
@@canadianoperator I think there’s a 300 m one in East Elgin St. Thomas that is some drive.
@@maurice1876Oooof. That’s a bit of a hike haha
Do they still make the TACT A1?
They probably do, it’s a very popular rifle for them.
Why are you wearing sun glasses indoors ?
Because I wear my sunglasses at night.
was thinking the same ;)
Any reason you chose the 308 over the 6.5?
Yep. Availability of ammo. 6.5 is harder for me to find here and it’s often more expensive than 308, so I went for the oldie but goodie. :)
barrel live is sigificantly better with .308. Shooting is better with 6.5CM. Less recoil, shoots further. I am shooting competition only up to 800m and 6,5CM is always a different group, so I don't compeat against 6.5CM with my .308.
@@marc_d.3576.5CM also shoots flatter. It’s a more modern cartridge with more propellant than 308.
How much does that barrel weigh?
“Enough” 😂🤣
The reason why I ask is I want to change the original to a 2 lb proof carbon barrel. But if the original weighs 2 lbs I won’t do that.
@@Caku974gotcha. Sorry for not being helpful in the last comment lol. To be honest I don’t know. It would be best to contact Stoeger who’s the distributor for Tikka here in Canada. They might be able to tell you. If not them then perhaps Tikka themselves. But personally I don’t know. Sorry about that.
TACT
Well you found the video didn’t you? So, good enough. :)
@@canadianoperator indeed. You're not the only one to refer to it that way, great shooting rifle.
@@jaysmokeyit is :) Even certain websites get it wrong. I guess it’s a common mistake. As you said though no mistaking it’s a fantastic rifle.
